BTW, this is not just a (big) convenience/productivity benefit, but eliminates a huge annoyance to seasoned Mac users. It's very annoying/frustrating to type Ctrl-b (cursor back one character) and have bold text turned on instead. Or type ctrl-a (cursor to beginning of line) do 'select all', instead of behaving like those key combos behave in virtually every other edit window on the Mac.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Mac users are used to the standard Cocoa text-editing bindings. They're available in virtually every text widget (such as in this very comment window, in Edge, on my Mac!). The native Notes app has them in their purest form, and they make cursor movement, selection, deletion, copy, paste, everything a breeze without having to leave your keyboard or touch your trackpad or mouse.
