One alternative is to subscribe to iCloud calendar with your Exchange/O365 email accounts or any Outlook account, and then sync the same accounts in Outlook for Mac. See details:

I am in the exact same situation as described by Liz. The only place that I can see my work and personal calendar items is on my iPhone. I should be able to see all of my calendar items (work and personal) in Outlook on Mac.

Also, the "workaround" by making your iCloud calendar a shared calendar does not really work because a shared calendar is a ReadOnly version of the calendar. So, yes, sharing your iCloud calendar and then connecting to that in Outlook for Web (which eventually gets to your Outlook on Mac) doesn't really work because you cannot add a new calendar item using Outlook for Mac. You would have to add the calendar item using Mac Calendar (formerly iCal) to do that. This is precisely the problem that we are trying to avoid.
