When in an inbox and a filter has been applied (ex: name, unread, date range), allow a click on the inbox's icon to remove the filter.

For example, I may enter the primary inbox under "All Accounts" then select to only see unread mail. When there is no unread mail left, the pane is empty and I have to click "Close Search", or select a different inbox/folder, then return to the original inbox. Please add functionality where clicking the inbox icon you are already in will effectively "Close Search".
