@leoniDAM Exchange ActiveSync works with mobile devices and with Outlook for Windows, but the built-in Mac OS X applications and Outlook for Mac only support Exchange Web Services; they do not support ActiveSync so they cannot be used with Outlook.com as an Exchange account.
Support for either CalDAV/CardDAV or Exchange on the desktop is crucial for full compatibility. This is the missing component that currently makes Outlook.com calendar and contacts unusable on Outlook 2016 for Mac and on the Mac OS X Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, and Notes apps.
Does anyone know if the upcoming move to an "Office 365 infrastructure" will allow Outlook.com accounts to be used in desktop applications the same way as other Exchange accounts?
I agree with this. We are already able to change the Display Name/Full Name of other POP/SMTP accounts. It only makes sense to be able to change the name associated with emails sent out using an alias as well
