If you would like to see an example of this, check out the Yahoo mail experience. There is no downside to advertisers that I see -- after all, you have to look over there to hide it in the first place. And then, when it shows back up on the next email, it tends to get my attention better it seems. At least worth an A/B test don't you think?

Actually, I notice you already have a full screen type double arrow that shows up when I hover over the email. At least that could temporarily hide the right rail ad -- otherwise, it's a very frustration experience of having to horizontally scroll.
