For companies, I enter no last name or first name. On Outlook 2016, and Outlook Mobile, scrolling through the contacts (2016) and the People app (mobile), it shows companies and first (or last) name of contacts alphabetically. However, on Outlook.com, it does not show by company name at all. In fact, when sorting by the default (and preferred) first or last name, it moves contacts without a name, and does have a company name, it moves them to the top of the list and shows them with their phone number only! If I try to sort by company name, it mixes all my friends' in since I add their employer's name at the same time. And it's not as if it's sorting in the normal way, it's grouping by company and makes it a completely different scrolling experience. Very strange.

My suggestion would be to show the company name, when a first and last name do not exist on a contact.

Considering the power of the cloud is emphasized, this would be a perfect addition to be included in the desktop, universal app, and web experiences.

They do this for the web interface, but the mobile app and the desktop app don't use this.

Agreed, also, some of the settings in the options share between computers and do sync to the 'cloud'. However, none of them are labeled as such. So, as an intermediate step, the menus could really use clarification on what is cloud sycned!

However, some options offer local overrides, like Name and Initials.
