Too easy to not finish an email and forget it
I love the new layout, by the way, but this issue is making me crazy.
It is way too easy to be typing a long email and then click away to do something (like read an email that just came in), and then what you wrote so far has been saved to Drafts without any alert or any notification to remind you to finish what you started. It was never an issue when emails opened in separate windows because unfinished emails were always still there until you Sent or Saved to Drafts. In this scenario, I've been accidentally saving half-written email to Drafts all day. My work life is too busy to worry about reconsiling what emails I think I've sent with what have been sent and what are in Drafts

Agreed! Consider upvoting the similar post titled "Compose mail in main window should be an option in Preferences," which as more votes right now.

I agree. Love Love Love the new layout, even if I do remember then it can take a lot of clicks if to get back to a draft if I needed to look something up in another email. One suggestion for solving this could just be to have a list of the last 5 drafts somewhere in the UI (Could even be just 5 icons in the toolbar) that you can click on to quickly switch back and forth. Also serves as a visual reminder that there are drafts to be finished up.
I agree with this! I used to start emails all the time and when I got my answer would finish the email. There are times when there are multiple "drafts"that are all open, so I won't forget them. Skimming suggestions, there are a few others requesting this.
