Re: new email window – toolbar customization & refinements
Would love to be able to customize the toolbar in the New Email window, and/or make collapsible sections as an option. Additionally, some currently available tool buttons and labeling could you some refinements. A few thoughts:
When the new email window is smaller, the toolbar is cropped from the right side.
Many of the tools that take up a lot of toolbar real estate have commonly known key commands (say copy, paste, bold, italic), and it would be nice to hide them.
Add-ins themselves are always cropped when the window is a smaller size, since they're historically placed way over on the right.
In "the old Outlook", button to add add-ins also came before the actual add-ins. I feel on a daily basis, you're more likely to use the add-ins you currently have, than you are to search for new ones, and should give up it's space before your daily-use tools.
Some items that don't have key commands are cutoff too – such as inserting a signature.
There are tools available who have large buttons, but could definitely small like their neighbors (Table, Switch Background, Insert Link, Crop). The Crop button gets a lot of prominence greyed out 95% of the time.
A few naming issues. "Switch Background" is really a local light/dark mode toggle. "Switch Background" sounds like it will affect how the receiver will see the message, and it does not. The "Insert" in "Insert link" seems extra, when it's not used for Pictures, Signature, or Table.
The Signature button has an integrated drop-down arrow, as opposed to a separate arrow (as used for the color and bullet buttons). Separating them could allow the following functionality: Pressing the icon will insert the default signature for that account; Pressing the arrow will give you additional selections to choose from.
Everyone uses Outlook and its tools differently, and customization helps facilitate ease of use for all.
