Start a new email, event, etc inline instead of opening in a new window
When you create a new email, event, etc, it would be better if you could create that inline in the current window instead of a new window. For an example of this, look at creating how the experience works when creating a new email in Outlook OWA. Having everything in one window allows you to interact with Outlook while drafting your new email etc without having to switch windows.
With the 11/11 Insider Fast release of the new Outlook, we now open new email, replies, inline
In the Calendar grid, double click or drag to create a quick event without leaving the window.
Agree with the idea of having this as an option. I also prefer to create a new email in a separate window. The main reason, besides being used to having a new window, is that Mac application shortcuts don't work inline. I, for example, am using CMD+I to "Insert image..." instead of using the italics. This is working fine in a new windows but not inline. Inline it just triggers the italics, and the shortcut won't work. Please make the new email inline window optional. Thanks.
EDIT: It seems that the inline menu for new emails has a new item menu name for inserting images: "Insert from File...". However, when configuring this shortcut the action is not triggered. I can see now my new shortcut next to the menu item, but the action isn't triggered when pressing that shortcut combination, so there's definitely an issue with the shortcuts in the inline new email window.
It's great that features are being brought into the product but why not make this a switchable option as it's such a big function to the workflow and doesn't work for everyone including me. It would be great if I can select an option so that new or reply to emails are created in a separate window rather than the reading pane.
Awesome! It's great to see this functionality added so quickly. Thanks so much! The inline event creation is a good start. In the future, I'd love to have the ability to edit every aspect of an event inline. Today, you still have to open a new event in a new window if you need to edit certain aspects of the event.
It looks like you can already do this in the Calendar by dragging a block of time, you get a mini-modal instead of a new window.
