I like the pinning idea so I don't have to keep re-opening it. I would suggest that in the calendar view though that it hides and then reappears when opening the mail view though (similar to outlook).

I second that, is annoying to reselect it every time you switch window.
Is such a useful functionality being able to see what's coming directly from the Mail page without the need to switch on the calendar -

Yes, please allow the ability to save my view preferences, such as pinning the "my day" pane so it defaults to be visible when opening Outlook

And to allow the current view setting within my day to be saved. ie task list, or my flagged emails, or calendar etc can be set as default
