My status always appears as "Away" when I use New Outlook.
Make status work as intended, and as it does on Old Outlook
I am signed into Teams, Outlook, Azure DevOps, and OneDrive and still cannot get my Outlook status to switch to Available - it always says Away and will not allow me to manually change it to Available. After I select Available, the options close and it is still showing Away.

Hi Team, The status is showing on OWA has Away if we are still available online. Kindly rectify the issue
I noticed when I signed into another MS app Outlook switched back to available. We may need to be signed into 2 MS apps at the same time to trigger available
I'm also experiencing this issue. Teams has no problem showing that I'm available. It's just Outlool.
It's still happening! Has Microsoft even responded to any of our concerns?
Seriously? the problem in Outlook with the status changing from available to away every 2 minutes, it's unbelievable. Please do something to make it work! Sometimes our supervisors may think we are away when we are sitting at our computers. H E L P !! :(

I've tried to click change my status by going on my profile and selecting it but every time for me it will automatically send me back to what I was at before.
I think it does it automatically but sometimes I want to appear as busy so people don't email me and does anyone know a fix for that?

The workaround of "Click on profile pic -> Sign Out of IM -> Sign in Again" only works for a few minutes then reverts to Away again. I don't have Skype anywhere and Teams is correctly green.
I'd guess this is because browsers put inactive tabs to sleep after a while, but it doesn't even go green again when you go back to the tab.
I find it easier just to stay Signed out of IM. At least no information is better than wrong information.
Btw ignore all who say "change your status in skype" and "it is an issue" no it is no you do as me some others have suggested! CLICK ON THE PROFILE PICK!
On any Microsoft application lets take teams for example in the top right-hand corner it will show your profile picture and status presumably saying that you are away. To change it simply click your profile picture, and just below the line which says Change picture you will see your status symbol and the words appear away if you click on that you will see various options such as busy, available, do not disturb and be right back. Simply click on your chosen status and it will appear!

Seriously, Outlook? This is dated 7 August 2019, and it's still an issue. Surely, it can't be that hard a fix.
The Edge thing worked for me - sign in on an Edge browser and it seems to always stay green.
I was having same problem and it seemed to be tied to me being logged into my account all the time. I logged out and re-logged in and then was able to change my status. For me this fixed the issue.

Go to Microsoft Teams and change your status by clicking on your profile

You need to change your status in Skype and it will change it in outlook. I had this problem. I use a Linux distro and cant install Skype but put it on my phone and now I can edit my availability status, no problem.
I'm working reduced/different hours, so I really depend on being able to show as Available. Signing out and in again changes it for maybe 15 seconds, then it does back to Away. This is ridiculous and nothing has actually solved it yet.

No wonder there is a sense of teachers not working and supporting children remotely since it always reverts to "Appear Away". So frustrating for teachers, and must be to for children and their parents thinking we are "away"
Please provide a solution that accounts for the fact we all multi-task
One workaround would be to login into outlook in two browsers (say Chrome and Microsoft Edge). This worked for me
From what I can tell this is tied to Skype. If you connect to your associated Skype account the Outlook status will update to match Skype. Close Skype and it goes to Appear Away. Silly bug really.
This issue is also happening to me. While logged into Teams my status is green but my co-workers see me as yellow because my Outlook email keeps switching to yellow no matter how many times I manually turn it to green. I've tried logging out of IM and it lasts for a little while but it's not a permanent solution. I think the issue is related to when I navigate away from my email. If I'm using Excel or if I'm on another website Outlook seems to think I'm away, even though Teams knows I'm active. Definitely frustrating when our teams rely on statuses to know who's available. I am also working remotely and it makes it look like I'm slacking off at home when I'm not.
