Notifications for unread emails in Inbox subfolders
If I make Inbox subfolders and I defines rules to put corresponding emails into them, the Inbox does not report unread emails of subfolders if the Inbox directory is closed

This is outrageous as to how such a big company like microsoft is lacking such a basic functionality to one of the most used app and email platform. Every year I am getting more and more disappointed in this tech giant.

We should be able to tell if we want notifications for any subfolder, and it should be activated by default.
I don't need a notification, but at least updating the unread count on the parent folder (when collapsed) would be the bare minimum - even Notes does this!
Based on web searches this seems to have been a long-term problem on the whole Outlook product family.
Hi, I'm using Outlook web and iPhone app, I created a rule to move notification emails into a specific folder, but not getting any notifications at all. can you help me?
I have missed lots of mails because I don't get a notification when emails are directed into a subfolder. this can be really frustrating as I have a very organised inbox with lots of folders and subfolders set up. Please look into this. a popup notification or displaying the new email icon would be appreciated
This has been my biggest gripe with outlook for years..I don't understand why I can't/don't get a notification just because I am running a rule on an incoming email. This should be very easy to fix/change, outlook is 'smart enough' to autosort an email into a sub folder, but not sophisticated enough to give me a desktop notification also? I genuinely don't understand it.
This got to be one of the most important high priority bugs to fix. What good is a email client when you cannot sort and filter mails to different folders and still get alerts of new emails in those folders.
Why have a function to set rules to move mails to certain folders when you cannot use the same functions as in the Inbox folder?
How come this has not been fixed?
Is the programmers sleeping or are they not capable of fixing this in their own code?
Sadly big companies are locked in on Microsoft these days, this force them to force programs like Outlook on their employees.
Does anybody from Microsoft read these messages????
As all these people mentioned below, this is such a basic critical function and there is a malfunction about the notification of receiving new emails for many years. Are you capable to do sthg about this or not? Unfortunately I am obliged from the public service where I work, to use this application. Otherwise, I would definately use another application.

Thinking this feature is way under estimate...this should be consider as top important thing that MUST be available. Just imagine that you got a tons of emails coming to your email everyday, and you found a way to separate/move them to different folders for different purposes without duplicating them in your inbox, and boom!! you won't be able to know if the email came....how disappointing!!!

Especially needed for the android app
Please do add this function - I often miss emails on Outlook365 and the Mac/Iphone apps that are in subfolders because they don't have alerts.
This is such a basic critical function
need the notification sound/alerta for mails going into sub folders
Define Sounds for specific rules is a missed and very important feature of the old outlook.
I need this feature for both the Web app as well as the Android app. The lack of notifications, or at least an option to turn them on or off, for sub folders makes the folders useless. Maybe configure an "on or off" function for notifications for specific folders, because if I got a notification for every email that got dumped in Clutter, I would want to scream.
Please give us an option if we'd like to have subfolders notifications...
I miss out on so many important emails!

Add the feature to send notifications to both the PC version and the Android/iPhone versions of Outlook for emails automatically organized into subfolders. This feature should have been in Outlook from day one.
Nobody quality tests these apps or what? I can't imagine that anyone in their right mind thought it made sense that you move emails to subfolders and you wanted to check your Outlook every 10 seconds to see if a new email arrived in one of those subfolders.
Let's get this feature in this year (2020) You're program has existed for too long to lack this obvious feature.
Get your act together over there! This screams of lack of quality assurance testing.
I use the Outlook windows app and I also use the inbox as a misc folder that doesn't fit into the other sub-folders. Having every email go to my inbox completely defeats the point of having sub-folders.
Please make an update where any email regardless of where it goes (sub-folder or inbox) gets a notification, which can then be switched off for certain folders. This would improve the functionality of Outlook for me immensely.

This is a BUG! Fix it, please.
After so many years..... still no notification for subfolders. I thought it should have been a basic function.
