Please disable this red dot for anything that is marked as spam or junk. The fact that this even needs to be said is beyond stupid. Does anyone at MS actually think or are you all just a bunch of code monkeys?

This post actualy helped: The fix is simple. There's a hidden folder where mail goes to that triggers the dot to appear. To make this folder visible go to: settings (cog top right) > turn on focused inbox. Above your first email there will be an extra tab called other. In there you'll find the mail that keeps triggering the dot.
Now, interesting point was, after changing inbox to focused mode, under "other" tab was an email, from microsoft - shown only 3 seconds or so, thereafter there was just one blank "spaceholder" nothing shown anymore but red dot was still present.
I moved all messages from other to focused tab, it didn't show there anymore either.
another suggested solution - mute tab alltogeter gets rid also of red dot, but you do not see normal mail arrival also anymore, so it's partial solution.
As my inbox have been allways not focused, this should not be happen. Nothing should be on other TAB because i do not sort anything, nor should microsoft do that for me.
Nor should marketing email from microsoft appear here nor hide itself.so in my case, problem is hidden microsoft targeted marketing mail. Very, very annoying.

this is a bit silly. Is there anyone working for Microsoft?
I mean those red dots are rather irritating.
Can someone please stop them? I am sure I have failed to receive numerous emails. -

..its really annoying, get rid of it or im getting rid of you.
Its quite obvious from the amount of comments here that the dot is not there by accident. -

Please fix the red dot feature. Eliminate it or only display it when there is a new message. It is very annoying. Thank you.

This has been driving me insane and also wasted my time (hours in total by now) from those useless clicks to a tab that has a whole lot of nothing going on.
That red dot is important and has a purpose. Please fix this

I'm about to scrap outlook mail for this reason. It is so deflating to be waiting eagerly for an email, see the red dot, and see no new messages. A-HOLES!

The red dot is really annoying and distracting as it keeps appearing even when I have received no new emails. What is the red dot supposed to tell you? Is anyone responsible for this even reading these comments? As for the solution someone has posted below regarding unmute site, that hasn't worked for me.

Found a solution for Chrome. Seems to work.
Go to the tab at the top. Right click. Choose "mute site."
Did that several weeks ago - haven't seen the red dot since

Perhaps the false dot is caused by incoming messages that were removed from Inbox by rules. There should be no dot if they went to Trash or Junk folders. Either way, a bug.

Dear Microsoft,
This is obviously a problem for many users and has been documented for well over a year. Could you please, please fix it? It is not just an issue with focused inbox as support people suggest. -

Dear Microsoft
This red dot continues to distract me from my work, several moments per day. Would be great if this could be solved :)
Thank you -

More like a question.....how many comments and reports does it take for MS Engineers to take action on this BS bug?

This is super annoying and is happening all the time.

This is a bug report, not a feature request. Even if it is "by design" nobody understands what triggers the red dot and it is a bu in praxis.

I agree, it used to only show when there was a new message in my in box, now it shows randomly - really annoying.
