Calendar color choices too limited.
Need more than 7 color choices. We schedule a service desk and need separate colors for each persons calendar. These are calendars, not events so we need the choice in the drop down for the calendar, not in categories.
Thank you for your feedback! The deployment for an option to switch to more saturated calendar colors in the new Outlook on the web is now complete.
If you would like to try out this experience, please click on the gear icon in the top right of your calendar module to access your settings, and toggle “Bold event colors”.
To moderator: you only mention Outlook on the web. The issue needs to be resolved on Outlook desktop app as well. I'm so frustrated after upgrade to Win10 and new Outlook.... Argh!
Adding a similar comments as the others in hopes someone at Microsoft will listen: I use categories extensively in my project management. Why isn't there the option to have a full RBG palette of colors to choose from? The new "bold" options are so similar to one another, there are basically useless for users.
Adding a choice of patterns such as stripes or dots would be great - then you can have sub categories too - e.g. Red dots means red category but the dots could denote a location.
your categories would expand enormously.
Can you please add more colours to the selection panel? I have no idea why you have deemed it necessary to only allow a select number of colours. A few of my key calendars have been shaded yellow and orange for years and now I am unable to do this. When you have 8 or 9 different calendars to work with, it doesnt make it easy to find them all.
Please listen to the loyal user base here and make some alterations to the usable palette.
Agree the colors are too bold and gaudy. There should be more choices along with the option to have no color. I like to use categories for appointments/meetings and would rather have the calendar background gray or white.
Colours are much too limited. The Microsoft team seem to have little sense of aesthetics, and it is getting worse. I am going back to Google calendar after so many years.
This is very frustrating. I used to have yellow and now it's gone. Please include more colours. As many have said there should be a larger palette.
Yes, I agree with everyone, please allow us the option of using the whole RGB palette. Thank you from increasing palette colors from 7 to 25, however those additional colors are not very distinguishable. Just allow people to choose their own colors. Its such a terrific feature of Outlook, so it's a shame that one small limiting factor is making the feature almost unusable.
The color choices are not enough and I feel the color choices are terrible, even gaudy. I tried the bold so I could easily see the meetings, but that in your face color scheme is awful. Bring back the old version. This new one is not helpful.
I agree with anonymous below!
******, why do you need to deviate from functional calendar systems, like the Google calendar?
A choice of (only) 7 colours, be it bold or not is not enough; despite the small size of our company (11) employees, the limited set of colours confuses more than it simplifies; I now have organised them based on the offices they sit in.
Every time I open the calendar, I need to click on the appointment to see to whom it belongs... so comparing availabilities between different colleagues and even worse, sitting in the same office, has become a pain **********.
Why not letting the end-user choose the colour freely from an RGB pallet? It works so well in other systems; simply by playing with the dark/brightness of the colours, one can differentiate even the same tone at one glance.
Also, this way one could choose more than 7 colours - honestly, are 7 colours even enough for you, personally?
Best wishes from a frustrated Office365 user,
I'm not seeing anything about bold event colors as an option anywhere. Could you please expand that idea and tell us where exactly from the gear icon this is found? I have allot of users who all need more than 9 colors, including myself. However it needs to happen, it needs to happen.
Adding "bold" did not solve this problem. Need both pastel & bold color choices, not 1 or the other. Red & orange look too similar. Also having TWO shades of blue, but no brown or yellow is not helpful.
just adding my voice - there are too few colors and easily distinguishable colors are not even included - no yellow/gold option at all. Switching between bold and not bold does not solve the problem.
How come any time anyone mentions the lack of sufficient color *choices*, your response is to "try the more saturated colors?" Saturating the colors isn't the same thing and doesn't solve the issue that people are complaining about. Personally, I would like to see bright rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) so that they are easily distinguishable. You could also have pastel or muted variations of each color so there would be more choices. A choice of nine colors, when four of them are similar, is unacceptable.
Agree with others. Would prefer not to have to use either/or with pastel and/or bold and have more color options that are actually different from one another. For example, why is there no options for yellow or gold as there used to be?
I can barely read the calendar with so little contrast. Where is that bold color toggle? I don't see it. And my gear icon is in the lower left of the calendar, not the upper right.
I'm only commenting in the hopes that multiple requests help get the job done! I stand with those in the group who want a color wheel or more color options when choosing Categorize>Color. I want to select my own saturation for colors and using a wheel or allowing me to add the RGB "recipe" would be helpful.
For example my projects go to multiple brands within our company. I'd like to select colors which more closely match their branded options.
I too want the ability to change my calendar colors with a normal color palette chooser. The solution provided by the moderator did not address the problem sufficiently. I would also like my calendar color choice to synchronize between the outlook app on my computer, my phone and the outlook web version.

I THINK THAT ONE SHOULD KEEP THE COLOUR OF THE TAB IN THE CALENDAR. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I DO NOT ADD TIME THE EVENT HAS ONLY A COLOURED FONT WHEREAS WHEN I INCLUDE TIME THE EVENT IS HIGHLIGHTED WITH THE SELECTED COLOUR.
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE EVENT IS HIGHLIGHTED EVEN IF I DO NOT STATE TIME - BEING A FULL DAY EVENT? IT MAKES IT MORE CLEAR TO DETECT SIMILAR EVENTS WHEN COLOUR CODED
So let me get this straight - Microsoft added the option to switch between 9 BOLD or 9 LIGHT colors, but did not provide the ability to use both, for a total of 18 colors? Why? This would have solved so many problems, but no - they had to add this arbitrary "Either, Or" limitation. I have more than 9 calendars, I need more than 9 colors. The category colors do not solve anything - I need customized colors for each CALENDAR, not each EVENT.
