I am not able to check my contact list alphabetically while sending email by clicking on new email .

As of yesterday, the Contact Picker dialog has been returned to an alphabetical A-Z sort order. As many comments show, lots of Outlook.com users are already seeing the fixed behavior. If you do not observe this in your Outlook Web session, you will need to refresh your browser (or maybe even clear your cache).
Again, the sort order not being alphabetical A-Z was always a bug and was never by design.
You may be interested to know the next item on our plan for the Contact Picker: Soon, there will be a way to type letters and by so doing filter the list down to matching entries. This means you shouldn’t need to scroll over and over, in the future.
Thanks for your continued support.

In forwarding, contact list is mostly missing, and what's left is in random order. Please correct.

Starting today, 9/13/19, after I compose a new email, and then click on to, or CCC or BCC to add addresses to the new email, the address book that comes up is no longer alphabetical by first name. It's all mixed up.

Support answered today stating alphabetical order for senders list is not available by design....My reply " it has always been alphabetical for the 17 years I've had my computer." Obviously this issue began Sept. 12 from the communications below. Support either is incorrect or OUTLOOK has ruined itself.....More people need contact them to fix this issue.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO MY CONTACT LIST WHEN I WANT TO FORWARD AN EMAIL HAS DISASTROUS EFFECT ON TIME. I ACTUALLY HAD TROUBLE FINDING A FAVORITE CONTACT IN THE LIST . IT WAS ACTUALLY LAST ON THE LIST. IT WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY TO GO BACK TO WHAT I HAD. NOW I CAN'T EVEN USE THE "GROUP" CHOICE. WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IS USELESS TO ME.

When sending an email, the "to" recipient contact list is no longer alphabetical but in "recently added" order. How do I get it back to alphabetical?

I still use my Hotmail address in Outlook. TODAY, when I was creating an email to send, my list of CONTACTS was completely SCRAMBLED. I had to carefully scroll through 137 contacts to find the contacts I needed. PREVIOUSLY, the list was ALWAYS in alphabetical order.
* When I start to type the first few letters of the contact I am looking for, the list shows ALL of the addresses in my “Safe Senders” list AND my Contacts list – ALL scrambled.
* Why this change? It has made using my email account more CONFUSING, FRUSTRATING, and TIME-WASTING.
* How can I arrange ALL of my CONTACTS in alphabetical order and NOT include the “Safe Senders” list. -

WTF? The list is now very random... At least give us a sort option.

How about returning outlook contacts to an actual alphabetical list. When I tried sending mail today - 9/12/19 - the list was out of alphabetical order. Nothing I could do would fix this.

I email customers with availability list. I now can't pick them out from this random jumble of contacts. I don't even know when I have scrolled through them all. They don't even appear to be in most used order as some I email every week are right near the bottom. Same customer is not grouped together any more when they have multiple email addresses. At least when they are in alphabetical order you can read them and not miss any

Contact List
I stuck with you and feel a little entrenched. I feel sorry that I leaned on you so much cause it looks like I may have to leave. You keep making changes and I don't like them. It keeps getting complicated uselessly. Just an annoyance and with no real benefit. Now my contact list jumps out in a big box (oh how wonderful) and my list is out of alphabetical order. It appears to be in no particular order at all. Waste of time and nonsense, needless and annoying. Hard to find the people I want. Do you have too much time on your hands. Please change this back and don't make anymore changes to my set up without asking first. And I can tell you now, for me no changes are likely to be necessary. It has been a very good program and I guess because you feel the need to be so, "cutting edge and innovative" you have slowly been making this program so uh.....smart that it has gotten stupid or maybe the word is ridiculous. Or just, not smart. Please give me the contact list the way it was, simple and accurate. In the mean time I will explore other email options.
Hope we don't have to part ways. -
