The colours to choose are so ugly and not enough of them anyway.

Thank you for your feedback! We have just released an option to switch to more saturated calendar colors in the new Outlook.

If you would like to try out this experience, please click on the gear icon in the top right of your calendar module to access your settings, and toggle “Bold event colors”.

In MS Office especially Outlook 2016 the color settings are hard to differentiate.
Microsoft decided to use only pastel-colored designs creating a lot of headache at users worldwide. In several forum thread, you can find complaints of users worldwide.
Why? Well, it depends on the user, and it depends on the used hardware (e.g. screen display) if the small color differences are visible. Especially in Outlook calendar, you have to have eagle eyes to see the smart color difference of the categories or even between the different kinds of appointments (blocked, free, out of office,…). The “baby blue” in different styles and shades is hard to read for most of the users.
Unfortunately, Microsoft allows to switch only between nine pastel-colored designs; the user can not change another style in the desktop version allowing a better differentiation. If the user has an appointment for several days, it is very hard to see the slight different background color of these days.
In MS Office Outlook 365, the user has the option to use different color sets in addition.
Request and wish is to give the user more color sets at hand, more flexibility in the desktop version, to select other color sets (except the pastel colored ones). Most important is to get a better visibility and user friendliness.

The colors need to be more vibrant. The orange and yellow shades look brown. The black and blues look gray. These new transparent colors are hard to distinguish one from the other. The colors on the old look was a lot better.
