Infinite scroll makes it impossible to get to old emails
Previous iterations of outlook.com have used pagination or viewport scrolling to allow me to accurately jump to any point in the middle of my inbox. The new layout, however, uses infinite scrolling, meaning that if I want to view a message more than a few days old, I have to scroll to the bottom, wait for a few messages to load, scroll to the bottom, wait for more messages to load, ad infinitum.
In fact, I can't any way in the new inbox of jumping to a historical email. If I can remember that I received an email at the beginning of last month, I don't seem to have any way of jumping right to it - previously I could just scroll to the right point or go to the right page.
Please consider adding back in either pagination or viewport scrolling, as infinite scroll is not a suitable technique for an email inbox.

If you click in the search bar, on the right (next to the search icon) you will see a dropdown menu that says “All folders”.
Click on this menu, and then select the date range that you want to search in. Once you’ve applied this date range, you can search within just those dates to see your emails.
Its 2020 and I don't understand why or HOW the teams at Microsoft still don't understand or accept simple user design concepts.
How does 'search' solve the problem of a missing feature? If a user knew the parameters of the email (ex: sender, date, subject etc), yes, search works.
First, search doesn't always work. Second, the problem is the INABILITY to scroll to the bottom of the inbox, not finding a particular email.
People laugh when they see I still have an hotmail account, I struggle to justify why I still use my hotmail account.
At least bring back some options so we don't have to sit there like baboons pressing on the 'down arrow' just to view emails from 6months ago.
I remember users used to be able to select a page to 'jump to'; or at least the entire inbox was visible and a few seconds holding down the down arrow will quickly scroll to the bottom of the inbox.
The guy who created this that should be fired from the Microsoft team! A lot of us are extremely disappointed with the new OutLook!! Gmail is the winner!

Search should be a last resort option, hence it's not the solution for the problem.
Also if you want to find every email using search an empty search won't do the trick, searching "*" seems to work.
One can also change the order to show older emails first, but it won't solve the problem either if the wanted email is somewhere in the middle.

SEARCH is NOT an acceptable substitute. GET RID OF continuous scrolling
Best to just get rid of the god awful infinite scrolling. Make it an option for those that want it. Better off to select page at bottom and jump to that section.

Thank you, but this is not helpful at all. If one needs to reach emails from 10 years ago, as is often the case with litigation, one must click the back arrow on the mouse 120 times in the first calendar box to get to the starting point, and then repeat the same exercise for the next box! No one can work like this! Please inform me if there is a way to TYPE in a date range, as I cannot perform my work having to click 250 times to reach older emails, and do this countless times a day, day after day. Unless you have a way around that, I must say that this Beta format is an Epic Fail. It is unusable! This never was the case with the Classic Outlook.com. Please provide a workable solution to this nightmare.

another problem I have just discovered. A major portion of my emails are going to my gmail account, not my hotmail account and I almost never use the gmail. Why would messages go to my gmail when they were sent from the hotmail acount?
after reading all the other comments and problems with hotmail I think mine is minor. but not unimportant. Have lost all the lists that I had in my contacts and can't find them at all. HELP. give my someone to talk to, a real person, not a string of automated anwerers.
not at all helpful. there is no "all folders" drop down when I click in the search bar. Just a bunch of words from you folks. I need to speak to a human being. NOW

Hello Colin, this is not a solution. Not only does the search option not function correctly from time to time (it keeps searching inftinitely then), but what we need is to be able to see ALL emails in a folder in a specific periods, not only search results. We do not always know WHAT to search for, when we do know WHEN, if you understand what I mean.

Put it Back like it was BEFORE ! It's Hard to even scroll down in TODAYS E-Mails with out lossing track of where you are, or Were !!!

Get rid of 'infinite scrolling'!!!
Providing a completely different procedure is only a workaround AND DOES NOT FIX THE ACTUAL ISSUE REPORTED!!!
I have hundreds (in some cases, thousands) of important emails I've saved over the last 20+ years, and I don't necessarily KNOW when it was sent or received, or the exact Subject line, or even the person or group sending it. So scrolling a page at a time, and letting me skip several pages to get to older or newer emails WORKED PERFECTLY for me until you implemented this infinite scrolling ****.
Just because you have thousands of people that need to stay busy polishing this abomination does NOT mean that every change you dream up is necessary nor in any way an improvement.

Not a very good fix. First, it is very clumsy to select a date range - can only go one month each click. it will take forever, again, to go back several years. It should provide a button to go back by a year (in addition to the month). Many software products can do that. I hope this will not be a big fix. Second, I don't think it works. I selected April 1, 2018 to May 1, 2018, and NOTHING came back.

That's a workaround not a solution. Ok, forget about the technicality. Why dont you just give us a mode that revert back to the HTML days instead of this clunky and slow mess?

Oh yea and thanks for closing an idea and not fixing it that has 5 times the votes of anything current on the list. What a great waste of time uservoice is when you don't even fix the top votes. We're just trying to help you make a product that is as awesome and as reliable as Hotmail once was.

I knew how to search emails a couple decades ago. And I think your very first release of Outlook for the Desktop the programmers understood more about how users actually use email than the current group of programmers as well as management and uservoice moderators combined understands.
For sure the old Hotmail Team had a much better product for users using email through a web browser than your current Outlook for Web team will ever come up with it seams.
