At times even if I am not received any new email in my Inbox, a red dot mark appears as notification in the tab (IE & other Browser's Tab) - which is very irritating while I'm engaged with some other work on other tab.
Also the count of recently received unread mails in Inbox doesn't go away even after I have read all the unread emails, until I refresh the page.
Could you Please fix these two irritating errors, to enhance user experience in Outlook Beta ?
Thanks for looking into my request.

Microsoft apparently doesn't give a **** about this issue. Here's other threads expressing the same problem:
Obviously this concern goes directly into the suggestion box that has a shredder in it. It's not a big deal for those who can do something about it, so it ain't getting addressed.

As of 2019 August 23, the problem is still present. Even if I don't have any "unread" junk email, it still appears without any new emails. This is very sad, and would definitely scare me away of buying any "business" package when a so simple bug is not fixed for so long. Who knows what bigger issues there might be if a simple one is so abandoned.
Stop indicating that I have a new email when I do not

As Bill Gates would say "It's just a red dot I stole along with windows and countless ideas of others... don't worry about it" !!

Looks like they are not interested in fixing this issue
It's July 7, 2019 and I thought I was losing it until I asked Google about the little red dot on my Outlook email tab. It's comforting to know that it's not just me that it's happening to and it also ****** me off that so many others are experiencing something that you would think is easily fixed.
After scanning all the posts dating back over a year and noting the same complaint about the irritating notification on incoming mail that doesn't exist, it shows that the issue has been around a long time and nothing has been done about it. Speaking for myself and all the others who have voiced their annoyance, is it too much to ask that the errors be addressed and fixed once and for all?
When I have various tabs on my browser, Hotmail will place a red dot on the tab so as to show that I have a new message. This is good. But it is EXTREMELY ANNOYING when Hotmail puts the red - you have a new message- dot on the tab WHEN I DON'T HAVE A MESSAGE!!! This forces me to stop working and attend to the FALSE alert. WHY do you guys DO THIS!??? Here's an idea... Only put a red dot on the tab WHEN A NEW MESSAGE COMES!!
******** outlook.com, stop showing a New Mail favicon when there is no new mail!!! ********!!!!
Right Click the little red dot and hit "reload". It worked for me. Good luck.

The Red Dot indicating new mail keeps appearing in my browser tab when I do not have new mail. Very, very annoying. Please stop this.
Yep, same problem here. I am not going to insult MS because I don't think that is the way to go. I understand the irritation in people and I have experienced it too at times, but I'm not coming from that in this moment.
It would be great to find out why this occurs - or to have it addressed.
I get the red dot in MS Edge browser when there are no new emails. I see it from another tab I am looking at.
However, when I click on the tab to check, the red dot then disappears.
Aside from this, the service is fantastic and I appreciate having a free email address with outlook, it's great!
Thank you for your consideration.
Please hurry up and deal with the little red symbol that appears in the browser tab for Outlook telling you there is a new message yet there is not one....old problem that should have been dealt with a long time ago...
Why does the envelope go red to indicate that I have new mail and there isn't most of the time (it's a blatant lie and it's annoying enough me to now check it in the morning and then turn it off.
I thought Facebook and eBay were bad after they mucked around with things but it looks like Microsoft is the same.
SHOUT-OUT NOTIFICATION (Top Right) never goes away after reading. I've seen it, and the 1 is still there. Fix that

I don't think the dummies at MS have the capacity to understand ordinary people's needs here.
They are so full of their own ego and crapola!

Three times this morning, I got a red dot, then no corresponding email. I captured a screen shot twice, once w/the red dot, then with the no email.
Me too. You probably do it so we access hotmail more often. Some sort of counting mechanism maybe...? So annoying.
Same issue. I like the red dot...but not when it is a false alarm!
I have the same issue, false alerts several times a day which is very irritating.
