Red dot
Dear Team,
At times even if I am not received any new email in my Inbox, a red dot mark appears as notification in the tab (IE & other Browser's Tab) - which is very irritating while I'm engaged with some other work on other tab.
Also the count of recently received unread mails in Inbox doesn't go away even after I have read all the unread emails, until I refresh the page.
Could you Please fix these two irritating errors, to enhance user experience in Outlook Beta ?
Thanks for looking into my request.

I get a "red mark" on the top of my tab that is open to show a notification of new email often but there is NO new email. Why?

the red dot appears when you receive any email, even to your clutter folder... which is why we all get the notification and see nothing new in our inbox... it's ******* annoying and for the love of all this is holy help me turn it off

Its little UX things like this that are real enduring frustrations for the user and ultimately drive people to look for alternatives. I must have seen that red dot literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of times and gone to check what new mail Ive received only to see there's nothing there. Tear your hair out stuff.

This issue needs to be fixed. Most workers already have a toxic relationship with email and you are only making it worse.

Try checking _What's new_ messages by clicking the loudhailer icon to the left of the notification bell on the right side of the top bar of Outlook in a browser. The red dot on the favicon of the Outlook tab should then disappear and not reappear until there are emails or another _What's new_ message.

I am 99% sure that the red dot is connected to your Outlook Instant Messenger status. If you leave the tab long enough it says you aren't available, but when you go back and click on it - poof - red dot gone. Disabling the IM option, if you have it on, should take care of it. That is my best guess

Whether or not this red dot was intentional, the fact that it repeatedly is showing up on my tab even when I have no new mail just seems downright deceptive. Please fix this.

Thanks for this suggestion. That's a workaround I an work with.
"Found a solution for Chrome. Seems to work.
Go to the tab at the top. Right click. Choose "mute site."
Did that several weeks ago - haven't seen the red dot since."

On the Outlook/Hotmail tab at the top of my window (using Chrome), there is a red dot that appears when I have a new email.
Right now, the red dot appears anytime I have a new email -- even JUNK email. I'd like to change the settings so that that dot only appears when I have a new email to my Inbox, NOT Junk email.
Is there a way to make that change, so that the dot only appears for new mail to my Inbox?

Hi there, I had the same problem. I was using chrome as my browser and would always see those annoying red dots in my outlook tab. It reminded me of my old blackBerry phone which I had to get ride of. In short my gut instinct is that Outlook doesn't want to get ride of the red dots because it keeps the user looking at their webpage and therefor is more likely to keep users engaged.
The work around to do to get ride of the red dot is to add "tab modifier" to Chrome which will allow you to remove the default outlook tab design to something more generic of your choice.

I'm frequently being shown a red dot, indicating there is a new email waiting, while there is none, not even junk mail. Get this fixed, please.

Or just allow users to disable this dot 'feature'. I prefer just checking my inbox on a schedule (once an hour, or every 2 hrs) rather be tempted to check for something that *may or may not* accurately indicate something worth checking.
