Preview Pane - Options to disable, resize and move locations
I am very fond of my privacy and am not happy about the fact that everything shows a preview. (even with the 'Hide reading pane' option selected) Please implement the option te let us choose wether or not we want our e-mails to be previewed!
e.g.: The first e-mail in my private inbox folder is an e-mail with pictures of a new bra my wife bought, of wich she is very proud.
When I then am sitting next to my coworker and open Outlook to show him the pictures of my fishing trip last weekend, my wife's new bra is not the catch I was hoping to show off to my coworker.
Thanks you very much for using outlook.com and for taking the time to provide all of the great feedback. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that there are now some additional options that should address the feedback in this posting.
1) You are now able to disable or enable the Reading Pane. This can be done right from the Quick Settings Menu. Just click the Gear in the top right
2) You are also able to change the location of the reading Pane. Instead of Just to the right you can also select on the bottom. Again this is found under the Gear menu in the top right.
3) Also, some folks have asked to make sure that no message is selected by default when you sign-in to Outlook.com. This setting is also an option.
To select that follow these steps:
Click the Gear in the Top Right
Scroll to the bottom of the Quick Settings Pane and select View all Outlook Settings
This should open the Full Settings and have Selected Mail and Layout. On the Layout portion scroll down to the Reading Pane section. There is an option called What do you want us to do when you sign in? Here you can select two options.
Hope this helps!
Don't want the preview!!!
The classic layout of "message list above" and "selected message content below" is not available.
The attachment showing up in the e-mail list takes up to much space, the old paperclip icon showing the mail has an attachment is more than enough.
In hotmail beta version, I cannot find the way to open the mail in a full window.
I would like also to habe the mail preview at the bottom, not the right.

Normally with the old Outlook, when you click on your email, it opens and takes up most of the window. With the new beta version, it opens in a vertical panel squished off to the right and I have to scroll to the side and up/down to read the entire email, bit by bit. I can't find the option to make it open normally. Bad accessibility in that area.
Otherwise I don't mind the new beta version, I am not experiencing the problems others have listed with it - speed is fine, all folders and emails were present and accessible, the vertical panels don't bother me BUT they should be more adjustable and - this is a bit of a quibble and I know you guys are trying to make it view nicely on all platforms, but still... I wish there wasn't so much white space around the text. Please, don't make me scroll more than I absolutely have to.
My pet peeve about the new windows style has always been its expansive and non-optional blank spaces surrounding all text possible, and you've done the same thing with this new beta version, adding more blank space wherever possible. Not useful... I prefer it crammed, lol.
Main point is the emails aren't opening normally when selected though. All I get is the preview.

terrible changes - microsoft must have more money than sense - keeping yourselves in jobs with horrible unnecessary changes all the time
for the love of god take a look at google docs for a start - loads quick and minimalist design - its better for editing word documents online than your own online editor!

Don't like email preview section on right hand side. I much prefer a larger width to see all emails as a list (titles/senders/dates only)
too confusing. preview should be a button or an asked option
I hate preview mode, i don't want to read most emails, just show them to me and i'll click on the ones i want to read. Also this focused and other division is terrilbe. Now i have to click 2 different things to quickly scan my inbox.

I do not like that it exposes what is in the mail before you even click it. For example, I had pictures sent to me from a friend and they were fully visible without me even needing to click the mail and open it up. I leave my mail logged into so that I can access it easily and know when I have new stuff come in, but I don't want everything that's been sent to me visible in full view for anyone that walks by. It just seems like lack of privacy. That's the whole point of being able to select an email to open up. And sometimes you keep things as part of your past, but you don't want it staring you in the face every time you log into your email account. If nothing else, give a feature to where it will either show a preview of the mail, or just show the subject line. I immediately left beta after realizing this is what happened. I do not approve at all.
I can only see 6 emails per page because i have previews of the email below the sender. I want to be able to see 25+ emails without scrolling
I hate email previews of the first sentence.. a waste of space. It is **** to just see 10 emails on a page. I also do not need to see attachments.
Give me the subject and the sender. that is all.
I like this "online previews" for attached files in the messages list. However, I think it will be better if it had an option to only show files that are not images, gifs or videos.
Also It would be good to have a visual alert in the tab used by outlook when a new message is received. I think this will be very helpful when your attention is in the other tabs.

i prefer the 1-Line Detail List of my inbox/folder (especially a little of the body text showing (if the subject txt is short) - i hate the full preview pane - i have not tried the search yet.
GO back to old style, easier to find what you want. This new version just looks messy when looking through your mail
The width of the email doesn't fit in the preview box so if start reading it have to keep scrolling side to side to see the whole email. Either get rid of preview or make it wider

The preview window is too small because it is crowded out by ads. For some reason, you cannot fully open an email in its own window, my guess is that also has to do with ad requirements.
The preview panel is annoying. I want to either make it completely go away or make it completely fill the screen. Instead it's just there, middling sized. All up in your face annoying.

In the new outlook the email previews in the inbox take up more vertical space than before making it more troublesome to quickly scan the inbox for important items. Please decrease the vertical space taken up by the inbox previews.
the window on the right is smaller making the mail unreadable.it was easyer to read before, make it bigger of dont change it
