I like the colored buttons next to each email but they are a bit overpowering in color. Maybe just stroke the circle in color instead fill?
Hi all – First off thank you very much for all of the wonderful feedback on the Sender Photos / Initials (color bubbles next to email).
I did want to let you know that we have made some design updates that hope that they address some of the concerns. Also I wanted to let you know that you are able to disable them if you do not like them.
To do this Click on the Gear in the top right hand corner. And from the pane, select Sender Image to disabled.
Hope this helps!
I DESPISE THE COLORS. LIKE KINDERGARTEN BUILDING BLOCKS. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL.
Get rid of the circles with initials in them in outlook live.com email. Have looked all over the internet for a resolution and can't find one yet. I'm not talking about Microsoft Office Outlook mail, I mean email that used to be Hotmail and now it's outlook.com mail. The circles are extremely distracting and I can't believe there's no option to get rid of them.

The initial circles prevent me from using the beta in its current state. They are so visually distracting I can't actually process the emails list itself. I agree with the others saying the circles should just be optional - different colours would not solve the issue for me.
i dislike the circles. Distracting.
Death death death to the circles. Too distracting. I want to read my mail, not get blinded by primary colours.
The circles add NO VALUE. And putting the initials of the sender inside them is infantile.
Yes make this optional please - it is devoid of function as far as I can see and often is nonsense (if the sender is a company not a person the initials produced can be meaningless).
If in doubt make everything optional! - then everyone is happy!

Make this optional. I don't like it and it serves no purpose. I look for function not "pretty" when it comes to the programs I use. I do like the fact that the screen now splits left and right instead of top and bottom, much more functional.
Make it an accessibility option, so that those of us with weak but functional eyes can use it.
The world is not comprised of two group, those with 20/20 or better vision and those who use screen readers. There are a lot of people, most people, (all older people) who have presbyopia. And there are a lot of younger people who have decreased contrast sensitivity.
So make it an accessibility option and put it in Themes.
Agreee with just about everyone else... these colored buttons/icons cause each item to now take up far more vertical space than before, and are an overwhelming mish-mash of unnecessary color blotches puked-out on top of an otherwise thoughtfully designed theme... Besides, what's the point of seeing colored initials of the name displayed literally, right next to it? I despise this useless, technology-for-technology's sake "feature".
I completelly agree . It t take out you focus from the messages and it turns into a visual confusion. The old way was easy, clear and fast.
I HATE HATE HATE the colored buttons. I want to be able to disable them completely. They clutter up the screen and make it harder to work with my e-mails. They are not a useful function, only a total distraction and a waste of space.
Full disclosure: I am using this e-mail account for the one and only reason that Yahoo mail in my area has crapped out, as if they don't have enough server capacity to handle the traffic, resulting in very slow or impossible to access e-mails. I like the simple and pastel look of their page, and the ability to turn of "conversations" as you guys call them. I want to see one e-mail and one e-mail only at a time, and I do NOT want long strings of e-mails. It is too hard to find anything when that happens.
Circles' colors are too vivid.

i see no use for it. i rather have my LIVE-MAIL back . Just sick of the new updates & feedbacks junk.

The circles show the first letter of the sender's name, which is the next thing you see reading along the line?
I may be missing something here, but the word "pointless" keeps coming to mind.
"Don't like the buttons at all. They take up space and don't provide any additional value."

I don't mind the idea of the persona initial colors, however there is waaay too much pink for my taste. Can you enable us to customize the colors? Maybe assign them with the contact they are linked to. Or at least link the color pallet with the chosen mail theme so they are similar in taste.

The circles should just be removed completely, in my opinion. Unnecessary.
Agree - The contact circle in Junk mail makes the junk look like it's from an actual contact.I correspond with a great number of individuals/group emails/organizations. Even on "good" mail, those colors just look like a circus.
The circles are too big. They reduce the number of emails that I can see on a page from 25 to 19. Making them smaller would make them less overpowering and reduce the wasted white space on the page. This is not a beauty contest, it is about efficient presentation of information. Also the information in the circles is really meaningless. The old small empty box was just fine.
let me decide colors (from a master palette) and initials (my choice) to put on contact circle & possibly use squares to take up less horizontal space
