Show total number of items in folder (like in desktop Outlook)
In Outlook 2010 and later, users can choose to display the total number of items in each folder (rather than the number of unread items). Please add this feature.
Thank you for your feedback on the Outlook.com beta! We are considering this change and will reply back when we have an update.

Responded "Aug 18, 2017"...
It's DECEMBER 2020. Man, I'd love to see the burndown chart for the Outlook.com team. Instead of adding "bells and whistles" to the UI, how about spending a little more time on feature/bug requests that actually IMPROVES usability?
"For those interested, ctrl-A to select all emails and ctrl-leftclick on a mail to unselect only one....
You will see the number of email minus one"
This is brilliant. It's also even more irritating knowing that the message count is clearly easy to get as demonstrated above yet Microsoft still refuses to display it without making us jump through this hoop.
Never the less, thank you for whoever you are for posting this work around.
also add ability to count the number of messages selected

I have solved this - I have kept my old laptop with windows 7 and old outlook and can refer to this each day to find out how many emails there are in my inbox. This number is crucial to me.
Bring back the proper operating system; Windows 7!!!

Please add this feature! I would be such a help.
I would like to see how many emails i have recived, and how many thats currently inn my folder.
C'mon! It's been YEARS since this feature was removed. Like 8 years. Put it back. I literally have no idea how many emails I have in my inbox (including read emails). So what is the point of cleaning it. I can't tell if there is less emails. This encourages users to not ckean their inbox and Microsoft uses more storage space. makes no sense on both ends to not implement this feature.
Still not done for 0365, you can only see the unread count - August 8 2019
To Tech Support, Some years ago I sent a message to Microsoft as I wanted to know how to find the display of the total number of emails in a folder in my Hotmail/Outlook email. (Meaning Hotmail that was converted or changed over to Outlook). I was told this function is still being worked on.
I still can not see no indication of the number of emails in any of my Hotmail/Outlook individual folders. Please can you let me know if this issue will ever be resolved. I have looked online but there are no guidelines, only for the actual Outlook emails (not Outlook/Hotmail format). Thank you.
To help manage email - it would be helpful to have a message counter that shows up when you select a folder (how many messages are in the folder) or in search (how many results returned). Another option for folders would be to make the count a right-click visible.
For those interested, ctrl-A to select all emails and ctrl-leftclick on a mail to unselect only one....
You will see the number of email minus one
Total number please for O365. Feel free to sort by unread or have that # number showing but for the real working world total # is key. Makes it hard to play inbox zero!

On the live.com website or the browser version of Outlook, this feature doesn't exist. This is such an important feature to have. No one knows how many emails they have in total and therefore it removes the incentive to clean your inbox. Is it not beneficial to Microsoft to have less emails stored instead of more? Makes no sense for Microsoft to remove this. Every email competitor has this basic feature. When you can see the total email count (Read and Unread emails) and you see that there's too many emails stored, you know it's time to clean your inbox. I've been waiting for this feature for years now.

The reason they don't change it, is because it is not necessary to the programmer's liking. Use what they provide, or else.
Sorry to be so rude, but I am fed up with Microsoft. If someone would come out with a new operating system as good as Windows 2000 was, I would jump ship.
to manage effectively, would like the total number of read AND unread emails feature back. please.
Why do they keep making changes to outlook when it was fine before. I WANT TO SEE THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF E-MAILS I HAVE!
I started with Hotmail, then it went to Outlook, then back to Hotmail and not combined. I am so fed up with all these changes.
I would very much like to see the total number of emails in my inbox...have no idea if I am gaining on removing emails...
