If you add #unread filter, the unread email always stays unread even after you read/clicked it.

Thank you for your feedback! Opinion on this behavior in the unread filter is mixed, so we’ll be adding a setting where you can choose to automatically mark emails as read in this filter when reading normally.

This is a major drawback to Outlook.
Scenario: I come back form days away ans have dozens, maybe hundreds, of unread mails in multiple folders, I may be already picked out a few priority ones,so they are now marked as 'read'. I then want to read as many 'unread' as time allows between other tasks (and sleep ). I click on the ones I want to read first - but they are still unread. I need to come back tomorrow and only read the ones that are genuinely unread.
I can't imagine why anyone would like this behaviour, but if your solution is to have it controlled by a setting flag, fine. But this was reported in 2017, come on!

How is this still an issue? Just mark it as read the same way normal emails are handled without the "unread" filter on.

I would propose to have an option in the settings, to either have email automatically marked read or not, after having it opened from within "Unread" filter. For myself I want to have it marked read automatically, though can understand that some people want to keep the unread list at unread when browsing through it.
So an option to enable/disable this is best choice to my opinion. -

If I apply the "Unread" filter, and I click on messages to read them then select next message icon, the previous emails are not being "Marked as Read" - when they should be.

It's happening very often that I open a message and it does not count as read. To me, If I open it, it is read, right? It has only marked as read If I ever click on the reply button or a have to select the email and then mark as read. That's much work. Thanks

When viewing filtered (unread) mail, the mail doesn't change to a read mail as you go through each email. They all remain in their unread state. The only way you can make them as read is to do it manually or view them in non-filtered mode.

When I go through emails, they are automatically marked as "Read". Butn when "Unread" filter is applied, it doesn't work. It need to work same way when "Unread" filter is applied.

when I filter by "unread" emails and I am done reading through all the unread ones, it still shows me that there are the same number of unread emails.

I found a bug with the mail. When selecting the filter "unread" and opening emails, it doesn't mark them as read.

When reading mails with filter enabled (such as "Unread messages") they don't get marked as Read. Really??!

If an email is marked manually to "unread", opening doesn't set it as "read"; you have to mark it again manually

Why is this STILL NOT FIXED (in either the beta or non-beta browser version)
