For simple people, Rethinking Terms of Service and Privacy Statement

My name is Matthew M (yes, real name). :) I live in a ranch house in South Dakota. In our world today, who doesn't use an email address, or the internet, to receive a service as a consumer? I am concerned with the way companies -online in particular- go about the topic of- user terms of service and privacy agreement. I am hope my concern is shown to be genuine, from the heart, and with compassion :) I recently posted to Amazon. But it is equally applicable to outlook/Microsoft, so, to save time I cite my concern below that I posted on Amazon's Forum....

I have gotten books through someone who used Amazon. Recently, I got an account. I have noticed that Amazon's conditions and privacy policy are rather lengthy. How many people actually read them? Can this be done in a better way? For example, someone like me who might be considered "simple" who only wants to "get in" and "get out" (get into amazon, get a book, pay, and get out...). I value knowledge, and think it is necessary to learn things. Maybe the fact, that they (referring to link for - conditions, priv. policy) are put at the very bottom of the website page speaks for itself...How many users take them too seriously? Besides the ethical, common sense of "Don't do anything definitely evil"; it seems simple enough to walk in to a store to "get your groceries and get out" without being "arrested" by a lengthy, terms of service and privacy policy before you get your milk and bread for your family. I understand some type of governance may be necessary, but hopefully the below articles will point out that a reformation may be needed in regards to the way such things are handled in our day and age...Once again, my intention is to be helpful and caring in this (I don't want to be misunderstood or judged wrong in my motives :) ).

Does the task to read all of the typed terms and policies seem rational? I present sources below as my case.

I surfed the web a bit and found this website: https://tosdr.org/  (Terms of Service Didn't Read) with an underline: “ 'I have read and agree to the Terms' is the biggest lie on the web. We aim to fix that."

No one reads terms of service, studies confirm" David Berreby with a date of March 2017. Quoted below with bold and underline mine, AND I agree that the doctor analogy may not be the best, but note the attention given to an alternative idea concerning internet agreements.

"perhaps society could subject internet agreements to industry-wide codes of conduct. You don’t have a contract with a doctor, but you can expect her to adhere to the Hippocratic oath and a host of other obligations to you because of her license. Digital agreements could be governed by a code of ethics that bars their parties from abusive terms."

I know the issue isn't related only to Amazon, but perhaps Amazon could "lead the way" in the digital world when it comes to this topic...or other topics for that matter. Further yet, how many people who work for Amazon or other groups with such policies actually read all of the stuff themselves. Will someone take a step to "free us" from such a burden...Who wants to sacrifice unnecessary time with their family, or "add onto" their schedule? Lets keep up with the times with good old common sense...like grandma did when she went to the grocery store. My hope is that this will be taken into consideration by Amazon and the wider internet community for the good and sanity of us all... or as an American, "with liberty and justice for all" :)

Here is part of the email I received from Outlook.com support team:
"I will be forwarding your idea on my end as well but it would be best to still post a suggestion at the uservoice page so that our engineers and developers would see this.

Example#1:
Select an Email inside your inbox. It says "Delete" in the top Button bar. As soon as you select the second Item, die Delete Button shifts to the left because the "Answer" Button disappears.

Example#2:
You have 2 Emails in your inbox. Select the first one and the Button says "Delete". Select the second one and the Description switches to "Clear Folder" and again, moves the Button to the left.

I get it, its context sensitive. But having the positions of UI Elements that remain present shift and change has never been a good design. If you frequently use a program, you memorize the positions of UI elements without needing to read the label.
