  1. Deleting spam mails should permanently delete them

At the moment deleting mails within the spam folder moves them to the trash folder. If the spam mail keeps being unread, the trash folder gets marked as it contains an unread mail.
In my opinion it would be better if deleting spam mails would permanently delete them (possibly with an option for undoing that deletion) or at least mark them as read.

  2. When moving email to folders. You can't choose from your full list of folders> Only a partial choice list pops up.

I stopped using beta today because the way the move email to folders is set
up. After you click on the move icon to move or save emails to folders, only a few named folders options pop up. Beta wants you to type in search box the folder your looking for to move items. I can't remember all the folders with specific names so it won't work for me.

  5. The "Top Results" items when searching aren't sorted by date, which is confusing.

It appears the Top Results items are sorted algorithmically based by relevance (?), but that ends up being counterproductive - especially when I know I want the most recent response to a set of threads with a unique keyword.

I've found myself searching multiple times and overlooking the result because it is at the bottom of the Top Results list even though it is the newest reply/thread.

You're already pulling out these as the most likely results - I don't see the benefit of sorting such a short list by relevance vs. something like date.

  6. Automatic Expanding Folders

When moving an e-mail to a folder that has been expanded, passing over other (collapsed) folders makes them expand automatically immediately. This can move the desired destination folder off the page - most annoying. Folders should only expand after the mouse has hovered over for a certain period of time.

  7. Close email when selecting the the folder

It would be good to have back the functionality on closing the selected email if we click the folder that contains the email. I don't like to have opened email all the time and right now I have to select a different folder and get back to the folder I was to not to have an email opened.

  8. Show search results for email attachments

I find that in Outlook, Search does look in the subject and contents. But the results include email with attachments. I can't find the searched word in the attachment or anywhere in the email. It needs to be more clear where the matching search is in attachments.

It looks like you display the search results for conversations, which is good.

  9. Find all emails from a sender

I frequently get multiple emails from a sender in one day or daily emails from a sender. In the previous version, I could hover over the first line of an email in the Inbox and a context menu would appear. Then I could select "find" and handle all emails from that sender from the results screen. I don't see how to do that in the beta.

I'll probably have to leave the beta version because I can't do this type of "find".

Thank you for your feedback! This feature is planned and will come to the beta in a future update. We will reply back when it is available.

  10. Search for the FOLDER itself. Hyperlink to containing Folder when viewing email.

    A. Need a way to search for the Folder itself (for people using LOTS of folders)

    B. When on an email from a search, clearly show containing Folder Name with an active hyperlink to the folder.

  11. Show total number of items in folder (like in desktop Outlook)

In Outlook 2010 and later, users can choose to display the total number of items in each folder (rather than the number of unread items). Please add this feature.

I want to thanks everyone for providing feedback so that we can make Outlook.com better.

The folder scopes that are available is limited today but you can still access them via the “All folders” button on the right side of the search box. You can also select a folder in the left pane first before you search. That will scope the search to just that folder.

We are working to improve the Advanced Search function which will allow you to scope your search to any folders. We will let you know when the feature is available.

    Thanks!

  14. collapse by date

In previous version it was possible to collapse or expand the inbox based on date (e.g. yesterday, two weeks ago, last month, older etc..). Now i just have an endless string of inbox and if i want an email from 3 weeks ago, i have to scroll down way too much! And yes, i do not organise my inbox with folder as i find the search function useful enough to retrive any email. But in previous version my inbox could be collapsed so i did not end up with a string of endless messages.

Please can you enable this function…

  15. Searching is very difficult in mail software. It should search a persons mail/ subject/contents in all mails including archive

Searching is very difficult in mail software. It should search a persons mail/ subject/contents in the body of the mails. The search should include inbox as well as including archive mails.

  16. make search bar a universal search for both contacts and use bing to find local businesses etc

On my android phone, my phone app lets me search my contacts but also utilise web search to find details on local businesses so I can call them directly.
It would be great if the search bar could leverage Bing/Cortana to not just locate contacts, but also search business details, allowing you to contact them directly rather than searching the internet manually and copying a contact email address into the email.
