Display Modes for Density or Compact
isn't it possible to have more compact view? menus are taking lots of space in screen and way too annoying.
I again thank each and everyone of you for using Outlook.com and for providing all of your feedback. I wanted to let you know that as of today we have enabled Density settings. There are three modes which control how tight and how much information is shown on the screen.
To change the density settings click on the gear in the top right (settings). In the pane that opened you should see three setting Full, Medium and Compact.
Hope this helps address some of the concerns around white space :)
When I check my emails, I usually like to be able to read my emails. With all of the enlarged boxes and panels, I could barely see the previews for my actual emails.
That's way the biggest issue I have with the new beta version.
In want to be able to see more emails in one screen!
The layout it displays your emails in is hideous. When Im looking through it feels like everything in my email is just garbage. Like spam I have no interest in opening or browsing through my emails. Im sure im not the only one that gets a lot of emails from newsletters or other subscriptions. I want to be able to easily see multiple emails laid out and not scroll forever to get a glimpse at what I received
To this effect, I would also suggest adding an option to removing the sender's avatar icons. Such a waste of space.

Each message takes too much vertical space in the message list. I could not find a way to make each message occupy only one(1) line.

I can't even add a new folder :-((
Emails in inbox are looking too big, in the older version I could see more of them on the Inbox page. It would be great to have settings for how big the email can be so you can display more of them, I think the main problem is the initial icon before the email overview, without it you can reduce size of the email overview (or just make it scalable). Otherwise the new look is amazing.

I much prefer the current version, which is nice, condense and simple, being able to see more at first glance. The new version is too "thick" with each piece of mail taking too much space, more complicated, and more work to scroll through each mail and find what I want. Why mess with what is already very good?????
Too little space to read the email. The full email does not get displayed. We have to keep moving the stroll bar right and left, up and down. Earlier version was better.

Definitely, a continuation of a move in the wrong direction.
I instantly disliked the fact that I could not see as many e-mails on the page as I did before. Forcing me to scroll through more pages wastes my time.
I could not see so many emails in the same page. I had to scroll up and down. Each email occupied too much space.
I prefer to see more emails on the home page at once - usually I have a few pinned emails on the go and with the new layout I have to scroll down quite a way before I can see any new ones. I'm not at all fussed about seeing the first few words of the email before opening it and the same with the attachments, so I prefer the old style of listing threads.
I'm afraid I didn't explore any other features because this put me off straight away.

The column size as formatted on my Microsoft Surface leaves insufficient space to read the email content.
I can see 27 emails per page on my screen, when I switch to beta there are only 11 emails showing. Beta is very inefficient of space. I won’t be using it by choice.
Too much white unused space, and too big buttons.
Another example of desktop vs. phone - we have more screen real estate in a desktop environment.
PLEASE USE IT. Wasting space is a problem for workflow, so allowing greater density of presentation is an important option for those of us who use more than a tablet for work.
Totally agree with you on this one Mike B. What a WASTE OF SPACE. In Windows Live Mail, at least you had the opportunity to see a list across the top, of all emails & details, etc., which displayed below that pane for viewing. left side for folders, inbox, storage, etc., plus the fact you could adjust the viewing screen size. Then you have these ridiculous ads taking up space as well. There's about a 2 INCH HEADER FOR THIS SCREEN, why? Can't you REDUCE the fonts & organize the spacing a bit more.. Better yet set it up like Windows Live did? I can minimize the width enough to see the emails, without going through extra steps. Then you have these ridiculous ads, that I'm being charged every month for Office? Please , please go back to Windows Live Mail setup!!! Many of us are begging & no one is listening.... :-(
About the he list of all new mails. The layout of this is too big. I managed to remove the vertical lines but its all in general, TOO BIG.
I can only see 15,5 emails with the new layout. With the old I can see 27 emails. So you doubled the size for some reason and i suggest you give us an option to make everything smaller so we can see more emails at the same time.
I like everything else though with the pictures gathered and shown on emails, but its too big.

as the author stated, too much blank space is used up for nothing.
also i dont need an icon view for the attachments
