Missing sender email address on hover and in reading pane

In the current outlook.com I am able to see the email address of the sender immediately. This is useful in the junk folder so I can see if the email could be legitimate.

This was not possible in the beta without looking at the source which is time consuming.

We need this feature. It's the only way to avoid opening phishing emails. If you click on an email now in the inbox, it displays the full content of the email to the right including all images that might be hosted on external servers by the sender. I don't want the sender to know they have found a valid email address. There almost needs to be a list of trusted senders or email domains. If you receive an email from someone new, then it should go into an area where the images are blocked until you mark the sender as trusted for all future emails. All hyperlinks should be blocked until the email sender becomes trusted in case someone accidentally clicks on one. Perhaps this functionality already exists. I sometimes see the message that this email is from a trusted sender but I never marked the sender as trusted.

very much agree, and always use this feature in previous version to check the real sender email id. This avoids clicking on potentially spam/phishing emails.

It is important, to hover over an email address to verify its true sender. Too many malicious emails can get through without this.

Me again. Another problem: when you check an email then click BLOCK. It doesn't ask "Are you sure want to block EXAMPLEADDRESS@FAKEDOMAIN.COM?" Bring that back as well. An email from a trusted address for some unknown go to the junk folder. You think "Well, it's in my junk folder. I'll just block it." not knowing you just blocked a real email from that sender and NOT a spoof from someone pretending to be them.
The way I knew those Amazon emails were spoof is they were about cancelled orders that weren't made by me.

"I'm providing feedback as an IT security specialist, the ability to view the true sender's address, rather than only the display name, is a critical defensive measure. Please re-introduce this capability."

I want to back that IT person up with a story. I have received Amazon spoof mail that used the actual Amazon address and got in my inbox instead of the junk folder. And I've received junk mail that didn't use the real address of whoever it was supposed to be from and still made it to the inbox. If it wasn't for being able to hover over the sender's name and see the email address, I might have opened those emails and who knows what would've happened then. I could've infected my computer with ransomware, malware, spyware, adware or all the above. Please, Microsoft, do like the IT person, myself and everyone else who has commented want you to do...bring back the 'hover and see the email address' ability.

Essential to protect against scams. Amazed and worried that it is not present in update. This alone will stop me from using new version!!!

Restore the ability to hover on an email in "Junk" folder and see the domain. This is a big help in safely ID'ing spam and phishing.

Strongly agree! This feature us essential for pre-screening messages to block high risk senders.

I need to hover over an email address to verify its true sender. Too many malicious emails can get through without this. It's just too dangerous without it. I will now switch back to my old version and will not use "beta" until it's fixed.

Some spam and phishing sites will use a familiar logo or Phrase (i.e. Amazon) to imply you have a message waiting. I've found your beta doesn't allow your cursor to show this.

In the old version you could hover over the senders name and it would show you the email address that was used. This is great in determining if the email has been spoofed before clicking on it.

I agree. The hovering over sender email address for screening with the ability to block sender without opening the email is critical.

  • Andrea Kubinski commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

You took away the hover option over the main email folder with the last update and left it on just junk. Now it's not even an option on junk mail. Put both back and bring back the option to find all mail sent, received, etc once hovering. Made it SOOOO easy to delete that way. The search option for that is horrible. Takes too much time.

When seeing the junk folder, with the old version we had the option to just place the pointer of the mouse on the subject line and It was showing the email address from where the message was coming, key element to know the real source.
That feature is gone with this version. Please put it back.

I 100% agree this feature needs to stay! It's such a safety when you don't know where the email came from. You can check without the risk of opening the email.

Couldn't find an edit button. So I deleted and reposted. Left out the word address the first time.

The only problem I see is when you hover the cursor over the email sender's name, their email address doesn't show up anymore. Other than that, I LOVE IT.
