Search At The Top Option
Please allow users to choose whether to use Search at the Top or keep the search bar in the legacy location.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback through UserVoice, Coming Soon, in product feedback, and on related blog posts.
We investigated adding an option to support search in the old location. Unfortunately, at this time we cannot support making the search box location configurable. Future Microsoft Search updates are incompatible with the old location. There is also significant risk in maintaining the old search component due to increased complexity that leads to a higher rate of bugs. As one of the most used controls in Outlook making sure that we provide a stable and reliable search experience is one of our top priorities.
While it won’t address the feedback of having the search box in a new location, we do have fixes coming soon to address specific feedback about the new control. The first fix to arrive will be adding back the right click Copy\Paste menu. After that we have a fix coming to make changing scope easier by adding a more prominent scope changing control. You can read more details about these fixes in our blog post.
While our search success data is showing that the majority of users are having more success with the new search experience, we understand that moving the search box is a big change that can be disruptive. From the product team, thank you for your patience as we continue to learn how to make Outlook changes easier going forward and continue to work on improving the search experience.

Please either move the search bar back to its original place or give users the options to put it back. This change is TERRIBLE and really holding up my work flow to my boss. Horrible design! Please fix ASAP. Thank you
Oh, this is *very* bad. When I click the search field or start typing, it covers the actually useful buttons like Category search (one of my most useful tools). Now I have to click the search bar, click a spot *next* to the search bar, and then pick my category.
Please move the search bar back to the old location, or at least make that a toggle. This was not tested sufficiently for users who rely on frequent searches. I've been using it for two days and it is driving me INSANE.
PS: Please let us add more/custom category colors too. This update re-tinted all my colors slightly and now three of them look almost identical. More colors or revert them, preferably both.
move the search back, our users are going nuts
Agreed. I want to move the search bar to its old location-- this should be a toggle. As an alternative, I would be happy if the "show below the ribbon" option for the quick access toolbar also moved the search bar.
I *strongly* dislike the new location-- it's a slowdown to my normal processes. Please let me customize.
The search window in the title bar does not accomplish anything useful that can't be done better already in other ways. And its awkward location makes the window look cluttered and amateurishly designed--not a good UI experience. At least give us back the option to collapse it, which we could do in an earlier build but no longer can.
I dont like this new. I need old please.
As other have said, the new search bar location is terrible software ergonomics. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the new location, since the Help hasn't been updated.
And for what - so that we can see one more email listed in the inbox? Why is this a mandatory change?

Please Undo This Change
Please bring the search back to the old place.
In the new place it is disconnected from the content it refers to.
All basics of software ergonomy are ignoed with placing the search line in the titel line.
Please put it back where it was so the drop down do not cover the "From" and all the other functions.
Was perfect where it was before!!
Please revert to the legacy location.

Bad design decision. Hard to move the window around and not a logical location to look for a Search bar. Logical location would be above the inbox/folder you want to search in.
Please move it back. I am a heavy user of the search feature and having it in the title bar is extremely inconvenient. At least give us the option of where to place it. It takes an extra 1-2 seconds to move the mouse all the way to the top of the screen. Multiple this by many searches each day = loss of productivity.

For those using Office 365, you can revert to build 12527.20242. I think it's the last one before the search at the top was added in March 10 monthly channel update (build 12527.20278).

Agree! This new location is terrible. The old location made more sense and was more user friendly.
