returning to the original message when typing a draft answer prohibits viewing the attachment
WHen you open a message in preview pane, and start responding in draft, you cannot return to the original message to read the attachment while you're working on your draft.
COuld you give us control to the message attachments, even if we already started responding to the mail ? sometimes a second read of the attachment is needed to provide a complete answer to the message.

How ridiculous that such a significant issue still is not resolved... WTF??

3.5 years later and still not fixed in Office 2019. If i would leave such bugs in the primary UI unfixed for that long i would have lost my job over 3 years ago.
I know that the workaround is to "undock" the draft into its own window but that kind of defeats the purpose of beeing able to answer directly in the preview pane. -

agreed this should be resolved. the only way around this is to pop out the draft. which defeats the purpose of having nested conversation trees for outlook. I'm fine with having the draft visible from the inbox. just like if you open up conversations, you can see the sent messages, but not being able to see the original in your inbox seems like an unintended design implication.

This issue still exists two years later in Office 365 (Build 16.0.11328.20286). Any chance this will be fixed at any point?

This was a non issue with Outlook 2007. An email in the draft folder was a draft and that was the end of it. If I saved an email before completing it, it ended up in the draft folder. The approach was simple, intuitive and it worked. Now with Outlook 2016 I have emails marked 'Draft' which are not now or never were Drafts, and there doesn't appear to be any means of getting rid of the designation.

Get rid of this "feature"! A draft should NEVER be displayed in the Inbox. It should be displayed in the Draft box. My situation is that even though my response email was sent it still displays as a Draft in the Inbox preview pane.

Opening the email (by doble click) into its own window keeps original InBox email in the preview window. I think its a Preview Pane issue...

There is also a problem where you can not remove a failed or discarded draft.
No matter how you try it "Drafts" is a broken section and won't delete or remove the "Draft" from the original message you were replying to.
Also I do not like the original message marked as draft when replying. -
