Option to mark the email as Read and Archive in a single step in Microsoft Outlook 2016.
Option to Mark the email as Read and Archive Option for Desktop versions of Outlook 2016. This feature work in Android and would be great to have the same functionality in Microsoft Outlook 2016.
When you use the preview pane, you can select to have emails be automatically changed from unread to read after a time period, or when you go to another email. If you don't finish reading, or want to come back to the email, you have to manually change it back to unread, wasting time and potentially relying on not forgetting. Or if you delete an email, it automatically goes to the next email and marks it unread, even if you don't want that.
The other option is to turn off the automatic feature, but then you either have to click on the button for unread/read, or use the shortcuts ctrl+Q/U. Better would be one single key that could toggle between unread and read without having to choose the correct one and without having to use two fingers.

Looks like this is fixed. At least for me. Using Office 365.
In a shared Mailbox, mark emails as read automatically once every member has literally read the message, so members don't get confused about the message status
This is the second time I lost the ability to mark an email as read just by clicking on it. As before it took hours to find out how to turn that option back on. I don't have the time to open every email to mark it as read. I also don't like browsing and searching for hours just for how to turn it back on. Put on the general or advanced page under options (in file) or somewhere logical. I have to go and search google to find it now.

Archiving is super. Archiving with the Backspace key is even better. But often I archive E-Mails that I haven't read (because I know what the content is or am not interested). Now those messages show as unread in the Archive.
Like on the mobile app I would like to be able to archive AND mark read E-Mails with one button press

Currently, the only way to choose to mark an email as complete and read when archiving is through the 'Quick Steps' tab. 'Move to archive folder' in the 'Delete' tab does not have this ability. I would like to see this option when archiving through the 'Delete' tab.

Currently, when a user opens a mail and the opens another mail, the first mail is marked read.
This feature needs to be changed to mark a mail as read when the user opens the mail.
Also, a mail needs to be marked as read when the user deletes the mail and the mail is moved to deleted items.

When an email is flagged as "completed" please, please, please mark it "read" in the same operation! This drives me crazy since ever! That I have to do two steps/clicks for one single action.
Background: I am using search folders and based on the flag a search folder displays an email or not. Now an email comes in and is displayed in the default search folder. I am clicking on the mail, reading it and then setting it to "completed". With that action the search folder does not display the mail anymore, but the mail is not automatically marked as read as I'd expect it to be!

Allow reading pane options setup to mark as read when selection changes OR when viewed in reading pane for time period
Yes, absolutely. If nothing else, keep emails selected after marking them as read, so all you have to do is then click Move and select the folder. That's how it USED to work, but with this new layout, once you Mark As Read, everything is unselected again and you have to re-select them, which wastes a lot of time.
