Option of "Attach as Copy" to be set as default option when attaching file to an email in Microsoft Outlook 2016
Option of "Attach as Copy" to be set as default option when attaching file to an email in Microsoft Outlook 2016. Or ability to control the default option via GPO.

Thank you for all your feedback. We heard you and now for Office 365 Subscribers on Current Channel, when you use the attach file command, local files will be automatically added as attachments. Files stored in the cloud will come with a dialog that ask you whether you would prefer to add as an attachment or share as a link. In Options, we also added a toggle to remember your preference if you would like to always add as an attachment.

How dare you, this is a free advertisement at my expense and time, for onedrive, I end up having to resend it and tell them not to use outlook.

This putzy, tedious oversight sucks up entirely too much time. I work in a small office where I am the only admin. I cannot begin to describe how much of my day is wasted, whenever I have to send attachments to people outside of my office. Even the workaround is inefficient because it prevents you from attaching more than one file at a time. This needs to be fixed immediately.

I agree. I use onedrive, but I don't want to send a link - I want to send the actual file.

Attaching a file in Outlook 2016 has become an unpleasant experience. Which misguided soul thought they were making things better!

Microsoft has totally lost touch with the end user! I can't attach word docs as file attachments, they are linked to a doc in the cloud and when you say "add as attachment" in Outlook it removes the file type and adds NO FILETYPE. WTF MSFT?!

Users need the option to set "Attach as Copy" as the default. Having to manually set an attachment as a copy is too inefficient and a major step backwards.

Not being able to attach a copy by default is taking me so much time!!! Please fix this. I work in real estate and sending them a link is worthless to me!!

I don't see it as a setting. I don't want links by default, we shouldn't have to take extra steps when attaching files. Please create a setting where the default can be changed.

YES PLEASE CHANGE THIS BACK. I DON'T WANT LINKS TO MY ONE DRIVE CIRCULATING THE WEB. THIS IS BAD.

Has this already been changed back by Microsoft; I'm now seeing files attached as copies by default. If so, perhaps somebody from Microsoft might care to comment :-)

I love the fact that outlook gives me the opptions to attache the files i just edited, but now i can't use it since all of my filles are on Onedrive, it will only give a link not as an attachment. Please change it back ASAP.

I agree. This needs to be changed back. This would probably work well if the all the users in the entire world had OneDrive accounts and functioned this way. Obviously this is not the case. There should at least be an option on how this should function.

Attaching a link is not the concern for me (unless access is restricted to only those with a Microsoft account). It is the default setting for 'anyone can edit' that is most disturbing. In an environment where corporate and public knowledge is too easily shared Microsfot shoudl be look for the default on the safer side of security!

Stop the change, please. The attachments should continue as they were and not a link to onedrive.

I agree. Change this back. There are people who can't access my attachments because they don't have a Microsoft account. This is silly - and we shouldn't have to manually select attach as copy each time.

Please stop this change: it is inefficient, dangerous and risks security of files on OneDrive and other cloud sharing applications. Also, please provide notice in the future for such changes.

Attaching a link is fine in many situations BUT the default action should be defined by the user and not by Microsoft. This change has now resulted in Outlook becoming far less user-friendly as most attachments in my operating environment have to be sent as copies.

This option is essential

Restore the attach as copy function. The change is inefficient for a lot of users.
