Option of "Attach as Copy" to be set as default option when attaching file to an email in Microsoft Outlook 2016. Or ability to control the default option via GPO.
Thank you for all your feedback. We heard you and now for Office 365 Subscribers on Current Channel, when you use the attach file command, local files will be automatically added as attachments. Files stored in the cloud will come with a dialog that ask you whether you would prefer to add as an attachment or share as a link. In Options, we also added a toggle to remember your preference if you would like to always add as an attachment.

My users are on the brink of mutiny due to this oversight. Please fix.
This would be great if outlook /exchange/ sharepoint detected if user/email address was the outside organisation and sent an attached copy of the file to external users, instead of the link and sent the linked file to internal users thus stopping uncontrolled duplicates internally. As it is at the moment it is only useful for internal users, whoever designs this does not work in the real world!! No one is going to register a micrsoft account to view a email attachment!

I disagree. Here is a better idea.
It would be nice that when using OWA (Outlook Mail) for Office 365 that One Drive for Business attachments be sent as a link instead of a cloud attachment to Outlook 2016 clients. There are compatibility problems with the Outlook 2016 MSI version especially when you send One Drive attachements to external customers that do not have an Office 365 subscription and are using the Outlook 2016 MSI client.
Concur- HORRIBLE idea. Staff are working as fast as possible, always changing from link to copy slows them down. Please give back default.

Getting ready to roll out O365 and this appears to be the #1 barrier that we'll face with users.

We set the recent documents history to 0 to avoid people sharing documents with external people without knowing.
Value name: MaxAttachmentMenuItems
Value type: REG_DWORD
This automatic attaching of a link to a cloud location is causing no end of trouble. I send someone a file to look at and they can't open it. I'm taking my work files off Onedrive and putting them on Dropbox instead.
The entire "cloud based" approach to personal computing reminds me of the Main Frame computers of the 80's. Terrible idea.

It was causing so much trouble in my company that we decided to modify the Outlook ribbon to only contain the classic Attach File button. See:

HAving links as a default will ruin customers Sharepoint user management. Users can give individual rights to files without the owners knowing about it.

the link is very annoying for many users
The link is a horrible idea. The last thing I want is multiple people looking at a file as I make post-send modifications.
MSFT, please, hire people that work in the real world to design your apps.
Yes bring back the copy! Forcing recipients to have a stupid MS account is stupid!
Such a nuisance! Go back to the way it was,PLEASE.
Please add this option! Thanks

This feature in its current form is universally hated by every single customer that I've deployed SharePoint/OneDrive for. Please revert this to "Attach as Copy".
Please keep things like always most of time companies do not allow for safety reasons links in the emails and being honest your platforms can not be accessed frequently.
Shouldn't have to find work arounds, computers should work for us, not us work around their faults, bring back old outlook, was much easier layout

I cannot see why this was ever set to "Cloud Attachment" as default.
