Solution for Synchronization Problem - Possibility for manual matching of IMAP folders
The possibility to correct the matching of IMAP folders, like in Outlook 2007 should be added.
That means it should be possible to change the settings for the folders were the Sent and Deleted items should be stored.
This is a serious problem in the German Outlook version (17 votes in microsoft comunnity): Due to wrong matching the Synchronization does not work correct. E.g. Outlook stores the sent email in a folder named "Gesendete Elemente" (sent items) and the email provider expects "sent".

Updated status to let you know we are working on this issue. We will update again once we know when the solution is ready for release. Thanks for taking time to give us feedback.

Come on Microsoft! You started "working on it" 4 years ago?
That's a joke!!Give us proper IMAP support like Outlook for Mac!!!

Would also really like to see the ability to rename the "special" folders in Outlook desktop, or for it to use consistent folders with Exchange, etc. and as the Outlook for Android does (i.e. nice UK English names like Sent Items, Junk Email, Deleted Items... rather than the Sent, Trash and Spam often used on the source IMAP services).

Outlook 365 - still cannot do this? This is really unacceptable for a premier paid email client to not have this.

This question stands for Sent, Drafts, Junk and Trash. It would be very VERY appreciated to restore the ability to change these special folder associations... (like it used to be in earlier versions of Outlook). Many french webmails don't support XLIST nor special folder designation settings !
So please... we have been waiting for so long !

It is now 4 years later - we still don't have it. Ironically, the little Mobile Outlook for both Android and iOS has it. There you can choose which folder is used for all the various system folders. In the desktop version, there is no way to choose, so we are stuck with having 2 sent mail folders and 2 junk mail folders, just because our e-mail provider happens to use names for these that Outlook does not recognize as special folder names. This seems like a basic feature.

Can someone from Microsoft please acknowledge this problem? This is extremely frustrating...

This functionality was there in earlier versions of Outlook and is there in Outlook for Mac.
I see you have been working on it since 2016 but i's not in the new 2019 version yet.
Is this going to be fixed? -

we are still waiting, it is incredible since the functionality is not new but was already present in previous versions. -

Do we have an update on this issue?
It's been over 2 years now since it was mentioned that it's being worked on. I was hoping for Office 2019 to resolve this problem and bring back the option which was available up until Outlook 2010. I wonder why they took away such a useful feature? -

Microsoft is sleaping. In every cheap mailclient you can change that! I think I will change to thunderbird if no solution comes shortly

Add option to change imap sync time interval. Alternatively find a way to get new mail within seconds, not 10 minutes.

With some providers Outlook fails to correctly map automatically IMAP folders. - It mixes standard IMAP english names with local language standard outlook folder names
- It creates duplicate folders for draft and sent messagesPlease re-establish the possibility to manually map and name IMAP folders
In addition Outlook creates sometimes empty messages wich are recreated as soon as deleted

I cannot find a good way to backup my emails using an IMAP account.
My current workaround is to CC: emails I recieve and send to a PST file on my local drive.
This has two major problems:
1) I would prefer to use BCC for this.
2) It does not work for new emails I send, only for ones I reply to! This is a bug, probably because it is an IMAP account.A decent backup solution for IMAP using Outlook 2016 would be much appreciated.

This post was updated way over a year ago. It would be great to change the default folders in my iCloud from Outlook default "Sent Items" to iCloud's "Sent Messages" and also to change Outlook's default "Deleted Items" to iCloud's "Delete Messages". This was possible in previous version of Outlook, why did this change?!?
