  1. Still be able to make a manual exchange configuration

Outlook 2016 removes the ability to manually enter Exchange credentials. This is fine in normal operation as Autodiscover should be working but it is a pain during a migration.

Ideally, when moving to 365 or an alternate Exchange service in an SME environment, it is nice to configure all of the new profiles before switching to the new service. One can then simply tell users that on the Monday after the move they have to open "New Profile" when prompted and all of their email (which was imported over the weekend) is ready for them.

    Creating the 365 (or other)…

  2. Wildcard search in Address Book (GAL)

In the Address Book of Outlook, there is still only partial name search possible, but no Wildcard search. Please add wildcard search options.

  3. Moving messages to folders with drop down list is too slow

Moving Messages with Drop-down list - Previously the entire list of folders was immediately available to scroll down. Now, only the first few folders appear, and you must click <more> and wait for the full list of folders to populate. Too slow and time consuming! Recent folders at top of list is not really helpful. Bring back the previous drop down feature.

  4. Backspace key in message list should delete selected message, not navigate to random folder

In most windows apps, the Backspace key will delete the current selection, just like the Delete key does. In Outlook's email list, however, backspace will navigate to an unpredictable folder instead of deleting the currently selected message.

This change would be particularly helpful for users who are switching to Windows from the Mac where Backspace is the primary key used for deleting stuff. Or for users running Windows on Mac laptops where there is no Delete key, only backspace.

  6. In non-compact mode conversation view, show only unread senders in bold

Currently, if only one message in a conversation is unread, all senders' names are shown in bold text in non-compact mode.

It would be more efficient if only senders of unread messages in that conversation were shown in bold text. Then I could just glance at the sender list to know whether I had to pay attention to the update to the conversation (e.g. my boss just replied) or not (e.g. Bob from Accounting replied).

The Android email client varies the bold/non-bold of senders in conversations, and it's a very helpful time-saver when scanning the mail list.

    In compact mode…

  7. Remove extra whitespace under AutoPreview text in non-Compact Mode

If you turn on AutoPreview in Outlook 2016 and the message list is in its wide mode, each message or conversation has about half a line of empty white space under each message's AutoPreview text.

I use 1-line AutoPreview, so this extra space steals over 10% of the available vertical space in the message list!

    To repro:
    1) while viewing inbox, turn off preview pane or move it to the bottom
    2) maximize outlook so that it will switch to its "wide" mode with sender and subject on the same line
    3) turn on auto-preview and set it to 1…

  8. Let me shrink the to-do bar to the width of a calendar month

In Outlook 2016, the To-Do bar's minimum width is almost 40% wider than the width of a calendar month. This wastes valuable real estate on my screen. Instead, I'd like to be able to re size this pane smaller. I'd expect appointments and other content in the To-Do Pane to adjust accordingly, e.g. to switch from 2-lines-per-appointment to 3-lines-per-appointment.

  9. Bring back the "Show AutoPreview only for unread messages" feature

Outlook 2010 had the ability to show Auto Preview only for read messages. Lack of this feature in Outlook 2016 dramatically reduces the number of mails that I can view without scrolling. For example, my Inbox today in Outlook 2016 shows less than half as many messages as the same Inbox in Outlook 2010.

My work day usually involves 10-20 email conversations. Being able to see them all on the same page without scrolling is important to my efficiency at work. Please bring this feature back!

The "Unread Mail" link above the messages list is not an acceptable substitute (and…

  10. Please make it possible to resize images when attaching to an email and ability to resize inbound email image attachments

Please make it possible to resize images when attaching to an email.

Also, we receive a great deal of customer inbound images and it would be nice if I could reduce the size (mb/pixels) of image attachments. I don’t need the images to be 12mb when 46kb will give me enough of a picture.

  11. Move Item dropdown needs icons to distinguish item type

When using the Move Item drop down (Home tab -> Move & touch mode on the side bar), the list of folder only show the name.

For example in the To-Do List (listing both flagged emails & task items) i may folders with the same name but for the different types (e.g. Task Items name "Personal" and an email folder named "Personal"). There is no way to distinguish between the 2 from this list. As a result you frequently unintentially move an email into a a task folder and it now becomes an attachment. In certain types of mail accounts…

  12. Double click to open Group message

If the reading pane is off in Outlook you cannot open Modern Group messages. We would like to be able to double click on group messages to open them in a new window, similar how you can do with mail items.

  13. Add Sticky Notes or Notes to emails in Microsoft Outlook 2016

Keep 'open item' emails in my inbox, and while we can categorize them to help them remember what's what, it would be very helpful if we could add a simple note to the Inbox view (i.e. without having to open the email), just saying "with John for review", or "sent to group, awaiting feedback", or "chase by Friday".

Perhaps the 'comment' functionality from Office could work, with just a little speech bubble that opens when hovered over - this would make my life MUCH easier!
Also, it would be good to attach a little sticky note to an email for…

  14. Remove the default setting "No end date" on new recurring meetings

By default when you create a new recurring meeting in Outlook the default recurrence pattern is "No end date" which is not recommended. Microsoft recommends setting end dates in their best practices link; https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Best-practices-when-using-the-Outlook-Calendar-d93f72d3-2361-4e0d-8d6a-5c4939c17f39?CorrelationId=e84b1b4d-dc2e-4bc7-8b5d-8b386f50d050&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

  15. Custom spacing of QAT icons

The horizontal spacing of the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) icons dramatically increased with the download of Office Outlook 2016. I can no longer see many of the important QAT icons and using the program is significantly less efficient now. Please restore the ability to display QAT icons in a narrow format. I will not download Office 2016 on my desktop until this issue is resolved because it is so significant. I am considering rolling back my laptop to Office 2013 until the issue is resolved.

  16. Make GIF's available for Outlook 2007 to 2016!

I can't see pictures, GIF's on my Outlook from 2007 to 2016. It'd be great for everyone to experience this awesome feature. Even Microsoft has use them and it's sad that I need to send it to other email clients to see it.

  17. outlook configuration sync across machines

Using Office 365 and desktop Outlook, sync the configuration of Outlook for any machine I run it on. Carry through Office 365 my Outlook settings for appearance (message header display, etc.) and client-side rules and folder expire policies. Also add calendar color sync function across devices and for all the protocols. Also t would be great to have a feature where Calendars could synchronized without having to send event invites to different Outlook accounts.

  18. Sort and count attendees by response in Outlook 2016

I just discovered that the table in meeting response tracker doesn't behave like a regular Windows table:
    - columns cannot be re-sized through either dragging the dividers or double-clicking them for auto-adjustment;
    - columns cannot be sorted by clicking their headers (e.g., show invited persons alphabetically or group response status).

This issue is present in Outlook 2010, 2013, and 2016. Please change it.

Also, can’t move/resize the column headers or sort by column. Also cannot see an accurate count of accept, tentative, decline as a delegate. If someone creates the meeting on behalf of an executive/manager, they can’t see the…

  19. OneNote like shortcut keys when composing email

I love OneNote and Outlook, however, a lot of the shortcut keys are not available when composing emails for formatting. Would be nice to leverage shortcut keys that do not overlap with existing keys, such as CTRL + . (period) for a bullet list.

    Just a thought.

  20. Universal Unsubscribe Button!

Please add a button that allows the user to unsubscribe from a mailing list with just one click! Instead of having to click unsubscribe/fill out the form to confirm email/uncheck mailing addresses/reply with "stop" etc, one button automatically kills that email from appearing in your inbox again. Worst case this turns into a better version of the "junk" feature and re-reroutes to an "Unsubscribed" folder/filter if it can't automatically unsubscribe for you.
