Provide an option of displaying the number of Unread Messages against Main Folder if Folder structure is collapsed in Microsoft Outlook 2016 to make it easy to check specific folders only for Unread emails rather than going through all the folders. Also provide an option to highlight folders that have emails in their subfolders as we end up missing emails stored in those folders after they are processed and delivered based on rule or criteria.
When unread messages are present in subfolders and they are not deployed, there's no sign on the mother folder about unread messages. Showing the sum of unread messages in brackets would be a good implementation. this way, there's always a way to track the position of the unread messages and to manage them if needed.

The displaying of all unread messages is common in many other mail progs. Why not in Outlook?
If only one improvement for Outlook, it has to be this. I need see number of unread emails on Parent Folder.

Is this still an issue? Can't seem to find any options for it. Would be good to just display the number of unread emails that have been moved to child folders, on the collapsed parent folder.
When you have a lot of mail folders and sub-folders under them, and there are rules to put mails in appropriate sub-folders, then we also want to get notice on the main folder when a new mail comes in one of the sub-folders.
Every time checking a very long list of sub-folders is too much time consuming.
Please make a function that all mails arriving in the sub-folders get indicated on the main folder.
when there are new messages in folders in the mail navigation tree, i can't see them unless I have the tree fully expanded. when i have a folder collapsed, i can't tell if new messages come up unless i have the tree expanded.
Se antal olästa objekt i "huvudmapp"
See number of unread items in "main folder"
If I have a main folder called orders. So I should see in Orders number unread (1) though it may be in a sub-folder called Food orders. Or if the main folder is the Inbox and then it is unread in one of the other folders then it should be the number of unread (1) in the Inbox though it is in another folder. Facilitates when you have many folders.

I have many folders nested and would love it if the number of unread messages in child folders are summed up and displayed on the parent folder when it's collapsed and the child folders are hidden.

In the object explorer of outlook show the number of unread messages contained in subfolders on the parent folder

Display the # of unread emails in the Header Inbox if an Outlook inbox has sub-folders.
Problem now is if the Main or Header inbox is on display but the sub-folders are not, you can't see unread email notifications. This change allows sub-folders to be minimised but still notify.
Allow Parent folders to show subfolders new emails when closed, so subfolders do not need to be left open to see if a new email has arrived.

Please add it. It will help greatly with my work. Iv missed some emails cos of the collapsed structure of folders.
Can't believe that Outlook doesn't have this feature. As we have 11 accounts with subfolders we cannot have all of them expanded. Not moving from Thunderbird undtil Outlook offers this feature!
I want this so much!! I missed few emails because of this. It will definitely improve productivity.
I have the same comment or suggestion, I would like to implement that the main folder says how many unread messages there are in the sub-folders

Not sure if the coding behind the scenes on this is extremely difficult but it seems like a rather obvious oversight no?
The obvious purpose of creating the nested/Root folders would be inbox consolidation / Ease of viewing. If it then takes additional clicks to actually view the nested folders it becomes a self-defeating feature...
Now where is the positive feedback section so I can scream from the mountaintops how much I love the "Did you forget an attachment" Feature :)
When a folder is collapsed and contains subfolders with unreaded mails, it doesnt display the total unreaded mails :(
As folders (Parent Folders) can have folders within in them (Child Folders) and as then a branch containing child folders can be collapsed to save viewing space in the tree display, the Parent folder needs to also be bolded just as the child folder is when an unread message is transferred to the child folder, typically as a course of rules running, or the fact that a new unread message is sitting in the child folder can easily go un-noticed.
The idea might have been suggested already in terms that I did not understand applicable.
This was the idea I was trying to propose here for the outlook, and found this one which was already submitted.
Because of folder structure in the outlook, it is very easy to miss the unread mail if root folder(s) are collapsed.
I heard this issue from my colleagues and even my manager about the same and they have missed the unread email in the past.
You can give this as an option in the folder properties to display ON/OFF.
When a folder has subfolders and those subfolders have unread messages the parent folder containing the subfolders should show the count of unread messages in the subfolders.
