Fix Searching Outlook 2016
More than 90% of the time search will not find the mail while the Search text is word for word in the mail. Even worst is the fact that it finds mail that does not contains any words of the search box. Search also exclude additional mail boxes in my case the most
We found one issue that Microsoft could be a lot clearer on.
Outlook 2016 defaults to using back end Exchange search index... we found our Exchange indexing doesn't appear to be updating - cannot see any errors but if we delete the Index and rebuild (for us that takes a day) then the index goes to crawling and it updates - but once its finished all the mailboxes - it just seems to stop... We are currently just working out downtime to do exchange 2016 CU6 update - as usual response from Microsoft -oh you need to update to latest.......

I've had the same problem since June, and it's rendered Outlook useless for tracking e-mails, attachments and everything else one uses it for.
Our stop gap measure has been to create a bevy of sub-directories just so we only have to manually search quotes and the like.
We've had our IT support people researching this problem for months to no avail (but still at a financial cost!)It's ridiculous!
Search in Outlook is an embarrassment, and the greatest loss of value for working in it. We might as well throw email into the shredder. It should be a valuable asset, but most of the time Search fails to help find even obvious things.
I'm not sure this is the right place or area to post this on but my usual forums aren't coming up with any help and was directed here.
This first happened in mid-06/2017. Our IT removed KB3203467 udpate (I believe it was). Then, following a quite lengthy re-index, things were fine until 7/31/17. He then removed another update, but (after an even longer re-indexing), that didn't fix it.
I've noticed the following (the item I'm using to search for is a something that definitely appears in email subjects and bodies both archived and current and in documents):
> Outlook instant search and advanced find are giving me results from archived folders only.
> Not sure if it has anything to do with this; but, oddly enough searching in file explorer isn't working either and didn't in June. When this all happened in June, once indexing was done, file explorer searching worked but not this time.
> Start menu search's results for file's works but the Outlook items it finds are, again, only those that are archived.
We setup an IMAP in Outlook for my email. Once it was populated, searching in it gave me the same results (only from archives).
I ran ScanPST.exe which said there were a few problems and fixed them. I've never used this before. Thought it was take a while but running and fixing were practically instantaneous.
Also note that our email accounts are Gmail. Our IT guy has found that this may be a Gmail/Microsoft conflict.
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional and using Office 2010. A co-working is running Windows 10 and is using Office 2016. She is having the same problems.
We have de-selected Outlook for being included in indexing which has resolved Outlooks search results but searches take very, very long. And we have Gmail up and active so that we can search there but searching isn't as easy there.
We have seen and heard that others are experiencing this also (outside of our company). We are anxious for a fix so that Outlook can be included in indexing.
When I use the search box, the search works, but after I close the search box and reopen it, the search terms from the last search are still there and can't be removed, and therefore I can't search again. The only way to do another search is to close and restart Outlook, or remove and re-add the fields to the search box.
Not being able to search efficiently has slowed my work down considerably. Very frustrating!
Outlook is really crazy for leaving out something as simple as search.
I'm with the masses here. I, too, have tried all the fixes. Outlook 2016 is worthless without a functional Search feature.
The fact that the "Search" function no longer works is a huge frustration for me and Microsoft's lack of support does not help. I moved over from Thunderbird expecting Outlook to be better but I this proves I was right off the mark!

I was tried to search some words in Outlook 2016 which contains in mail messages, and every time I got the result "no result".
I changed the word into some regular word, such as "best regards", still "no results", even the "indexing status" told me that it has already finished the job.
None of the proposed fixes found online are working. This is a very basic function and very much needed tool to effectively manage email - especially when used professionally. Very frustrating Microsoft - why can't this be fixed?

My issue is that the "All Mailboxes" search is less inclusive than it was in Outlook 2010. I want Instant Search to return "ALL ITEMS", not some items, from some folders, from some ages (I really don't like "Include Older Results").
I tried to add a separate UserVoice item but I believe the moderator moved my item under a "Skype For Business" item, which to me is not really the same thing.
Regarding this item specifically the Boolean search language should be documented, and sometimes numeric items need to be double-quoted to work well ("1347239aas8878" rather than 1347239aas8878). And sometimes the Boolean search terms stop returning results that you know are there.
Sometimes, to see an email that arrived while the Instant Search was operational, you have to "trick it", by changing one letter, then changing it back.
With some tricks like these I can get Instant Search to work, but the average Outlook user among my IT colleagues rarely use it. It does need work.

I use Windows 7 and migrated from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2016. Search function which was able to filter my e-mails in Outlook 2010 is not working in Outlook 2016. I have rebuilt the index, restarted the system, etc., nothing is working. Can somebody from Microsoft help?
I get complaints from many users each week about the search feature. They have multiple shared mailboxes, each mailbox dedicated to an individual customer. Not being able to search across the shared mailboxes causes huge frustration and a lot of lost time.
The other frustration (again across many users) is when the search results come back with empty data. The users then click on each returned message which populates the data, and they hope by doing this enough times they find the message they are looking for.
All in all the search in Outlook 2016 is very poor, and needs a considerable improvement.
Outlook 2016: Something went wrong and your search couldn't be completed - This needs to be fixed
I've been working away at this for a couple of weeks now ....
Time to switch to Mozilla Thunderbird I guess, since I don't use Exchange, or use Outlook for anything but e-mail and contacts (but I mostly use my iPhone for contacts, and my Outlook/ iCloud syncing has also broken - but that's a totally different story ;-)
Tried reloading office and indexing...this is killing me. Fix this search issue now.
Something went wrong and your search couldn't be completed.....this error keeps coming up whenever searching. Additionally, not all items are coming in the result even after indexing in completed. Please fix this ASAP!!!

After the last update(s) the search is not working at all! What's going on? Indexing is complete and restarted system several times. Other computers are having the same problems! AHHHHHH!!!!!
This whole change in e-mail search is untenable! Bring back the previous system Microsoft. Totally exasperated by this!
