Overall Application Font Size
While there's the ability to increase the font size of email messages, the Outlook application interface itself does not allow for an increase in font size of all the various UI elements. I'm on a retina screen and it's hard for me to see, to the point where I've had to lower the resolution on my monitor. Would be amazing to have the UI customizable to allow for increased font sizes. For now the squinting shall continue!
Good news. Starting in the March 2018 production release, version 16.11, you can now increase or decrease the text size in the sidebar, message list, and reading pane.

The message's font size should be independent from the list of the emails.
I'm on the Insider Fast Program, and this change has been present for several months. Unfortunately, the font size in messages is tied to the sidebar, message list, so now when reducing the font size in the sidebar and message list to reasonable values, the message text in received emails becomes unbearably small.
Please decouple the font size in received messages from the sidebar and message list font size.

Microsoft's solution is horrible. Instead of giving users the ability to independently adjust the font sizes of messages, message lists, the folder pane, etc. Microsoft gives us a one-size-fits-all garbage solution.

Thank you Outlook team for enabling the increase in Font Size in Outlook window for email. Just wish the font size could be enlarged another 2-3 points. But I appreciate your enabling this fix.

Something marvelous happened this week, and the type size display in my messages suddenly turned "real"--the 14-pt. Calibri that I've been using so that I could see what I composed turned realistically enormous and I could tone the default down to a reasonable 12. Now I can read what I'm writing and not have to shrink it to send it. Great news!
PLEASE ADD FEATURE TO INCREASE FONT SIZE. THIS IS VERY STRENUOUS TO THE EYES!!!
Please make it possible to increase the font size on the item list in Outlook for Mac, v. 16.9 (running on Mac Sierra OS 10.12.6

Using Office 2016 Mac; Outlook 2016 (version 16.9) recently enabled an option to change Text display size. It is found in Outlook > Preferences > Fonts > Text display size. The problem is that sliding this control changes all text font including the text within messages. What would be preferred and what the old Entourage allowed was the changing of text size for Folder names in the left margin, and message summaries in the second-to-left margin only. The Text display size slider you have now is of little use because to make the folder names small enough so I can read long folder names it means that the incoming message text is too small to read.
Working great. Would love at least one more LARGER choice in the preferences menu.
"there is still no way to set the default font size for incoming messages"
What? The whole point was that text format (non-HTML) message are displayed in a tiny font compared to HTML messages. Having to adjust the font size all the time is the problem!
Unfortunately, there is still no way to set the default font size for incoming messages. Font size is tiny. I know that I can use cmd+ to increase font size, but that gets old fast when it has to be done to every message.

Ugh. I can go just one size smaller?
It's better than nothing but things like the message index could still be smaller... and the lines spaced closer together.

Does anyone have any idea why my iMac has received the upgrade to 16.9 but not my brand new MacBook Pro - still old version and does not have the option?

That's great news! Tried out the feature and now my eyes don't feel as strained. Thank you!
I hate that I upgraded and can now barely read the message list. That's a downgrade - not an upgrade!

Its great to see that an overall font size option now exists, and while this is great for tightening up the folder and email message lists, its also being applied to the font size in received messages, and that latter item is a problem. Could you please at least provide separate control between font size in received messages and font size in email/folder lists? And ideally, it would be nice to have font size control over all three items.

ABSOLUTELY want this. I just moved from Windows to a Mac and this is super annoying.
Also, the keyboard commands to increase the size inside an email DO NOT WORK. Instead I have to open the menu and click on it for every email, and it never retains that new setting if I move away from the email and then return. This is very frustrating
I suggest you allow for the increase of message list font size
