Put the categories back in sidebar!
Put the categories back in the sidebar! Why on earth would you take that feature away? Now I can't view contacts or calendar by category, rendering the categories essentially useless.

The workaround below (using advanced search) is good. It can also be accomplished by searching "category:[category name] and saving that search as a Smart Folder. Example - let's say you have Accountant as one of your categories for Contacts. Searching contacts for category:Accountant will filter the list down to only Contacts who you categorized that way. Click "Save Search as Smart Folder," Name the folder "Accountants," and you've got it. Same result as Advanced Search. May be faster.

I agree - why would you take away something so simple yet so useful.

After contacting tech support, there is a workaround: You can use the Advanced search option to search email address/Contacts/Calendar events in a Category. To do the same please navigate and click on Search bar in the top right corner --> click on Advanced option on the Outlook 'Search tab' ribbon --> select the condition as Category from the drop-down available.
If you wish to use the Category search frequently, you can create a Smart Folder of different categories on the Outlook sidebar. To create a Smart Folders, kindly navigate and click on Search bar in the top right corner --> click on Advanced option on the Outlook 'Search tab' ribbon --> select the condition as Category from the drop-down available --> select the respective category --> click on Save Search on the Outlook ribbon --> title the Smart Folder on the sidebar.

Yes, please put them back! Very useful, and really messed me up to have them go away. It was like someone reached into my address book and stole it!

Please please please put the calendar categories back in!!! Why would you ever take them out? I depend on them! Do I have to canel my subscription and revert to a previous version?

We set up our whole calendar with categories so we could filter them. Taking this feature away has caused a huge problem for us.

Please add this back. I relied heavily on this for managing my staff schedule. Now it's very difficult to see just one staffer in my calendar -- or just my "teaching" category.
Please return this functionality!

Wholly agree. Filtering content by categories is an essential way to manage my busy calendar. What's the point of having categories if they no longer serve a practical function?
