Support Dark Mode in Reading Pane
Please make the preview pane appear dark in dark mode. The current implementation hurts the eyes and is woefully inconsistent with the rest of the application appearance.
Thanks for the feedback! We are working on this.
Current Dark Mode support: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/release-notes-office-for-mac
Adding my voice as this is a horrible implementation of Dark Mode.
Agree with everyone! PLEASE just let me set the reading panel to light with the rest of the app dark. Strangely my Office Mac got stuck like that, which I love. But my home system is still in the "toggle every message" ****.

Dark mode good for UI - ABSOLUTELY AWFUL FOR READING PANE!!!! Please provide an option for a default reading pane background color!!!!!! c'mon!
As user 359,847, I 359,847th the petition to implement more dark mode preference settings. That is all.
Agree with the Reading Pane being a toggle. I hate reading white-on-black emails.

Its clear that people hate the fact that the entire interface is now black and that you have to click to change the viewing mode for each email. A simple solution would be to click the "switch background" icon once and it remains as a preference for all mails.

Love dark mode for UI, hate that the reading pane is black and that it requires a click *each and every time* I read an email to change it to white. PLEASE FIX!

Please revert the Outlook for Mac reading pane Dark Mode setting back to what it was in v16.26 (app in dark mode, reading pane in light mode), or create this as a preference that can be user toggled - not on or off for the whole app as is currently the case. Toggling the setting for every single email is a joke - no HTML emails or signatures have been created with dark mode in mind, looks terrible.

yes make the reading pane a choice. I personally like dark mode but prefer my reading pain white. having to click the moon or sun icon button to go back and forth is NOT at all convenient. How hard is to make a preference choice as we have from dark more to light?????
Would be happy with Reading Pane dark-text-on-light-BG, rest of UI as light-text-on-dark-BG.
Ideally 2 switches; 1 for [Dark Mode], one for [Reading Pane Dark Mode].
Happy for Reading Pane to be in Dark Mode as long as tables don't appear with black text on dark BG?!?
Anything that lets me read the errr... Reading Pane really.
For the love of Pete does anything MS do ever go through any kind of user testing? Blind Freddy could see this nightmare unfolding from a mile away, please make it a global preference!

Please keep dark mode as is, but make the reading pane white. Or add this as a choice in preferences - that would be ideal for everyone.
Use a lower contrast for dark mode in reading pane.
Current contrast is too high and hurts my eyes.
I agree with a lot of below comments - I love dark mode for the message bar on the right but prefer light mode for the message pane itself. Would love to see it as a preference instead of a toggle on each individual email (that switches back when I click off that email, even!).
I love the dark mode but not for reading. Neither for Word, Excel or mails. I would appreciate to have an option to toggle this.
Toggling from dark to light on each email is so annoying. I was also forced to update. Not happy.
Please change so I can set a preference rather than toggling from dark to light for every single message - agree this is very inefficient
Agree with the comments below...
Why would Microsoft do this....toggle back on every single email.
Got forced to update, otherwise I wasn't able to open up the app, and now, my eyes!
We should be able to select the background colour and set default for all emails. Either dark or light as a global choice, not dictated by MS!
Dark mode is now broken. The message body display uses a dark background even when all the elements inside are rich and designed for a light background. The HUGE button on the ribbon to "Switch Background" only works for a single message?? It should be a toggle, and much smaller.
