While I can create a new Inbox Rule, it's not possible to run this rule against all messages in my Inbox already that match the criteria of the rule.
Is it possible to update this to be more akin to the Outlook / Exchange inbox rule engine?

I think bringing back the rules you can have for folders would be amazing. It really helped to keep my inbox tidy. It's been a mess since it was changed. Really annoying and hard to find what I want.

1) Bring back multi-sweep. 2) Bring back old time-based rules for sorting. I can't believe you removed two of the most powerful tools for managing email.

When creating a rule, make it an option to add "Sender is in Contact List" as a condition.
better email handling rules

Would it be possible to have a feature that allows you to run all rules manually, such as you can in the desktop version of Outlook?

It would really help to be able to set rules and sort contacts by the portion of the email address to the right of the @. This would let you route John and Suzy from @companyA.*** to the companyA folder without having to create individual rules. Also in Contacts, it would allow you to quickly find all of the contacts at companyA easily for update or review.
Make it so that when I create a rule, it actually works!

Create Rule by Categories, this was available in the previous version of outlook.com

Where did the rule for inbox for incoming emails go? It was very convenient. Also, the previous layout is much better. The letters are too light.

Make easy to create a rules for mail before it is received.

I would like to notice that when i and to modify a rule, the option keep the last mail from "blablaa" and move the rest to "folder" is missing.
But when i created a rule for the first time i can put this option.
Hope this improvement will be done

I've just set up some rules in 'sweep' but there is no option to run the rules straightaway so that I can tidy up my inbox which is just too cluttered. Is this something you can look into - please?

Figure out how to have system recognize messages to auto sort them into files that you create.

For the love of the world..
Give back "Also move future messages" function back..
I used to filter emails so they end up in a folders (different folders for different senders, e.g., a folder for LinkedIn updates). I'd love to have this feature back. It's really a must for me!

It would be vey helpful for cleaning up a full inbox with thousands of messages to have a way to execute a rule explicitly instead of only apply it to new messages. How can I otherwise move/delete/... existing messages automatically?

when adding rules to add to a folder or mark to a category it only applies to up coming emails, it's more convenient if there's an option to apply the rule (add to folder or mark the category) to all the existing emails. (emails already in the inbox/ folders)
Inbox rules don't allow filtering adequate filtering with separate aliases. In many cases, when an email with a spoofed address (indeed, general clutter) comes in, often it doesn't have the email it was sent to attached. This means that they don't get filtered and remain in my inbox. Having a way to segregate an alias so that the emails coming from that alias can be boxed off, would be extremely helpful.

Need to improve rules and filter ....when we create rule pls ask what can do with particular message and apply all message or specific message just like gmail rules it has very easy to use
Rohit Kumar commented
Please allow for filtering of past messages by condition. Cannot do so right now. While I can add a rule to filter new messages by a specific condition, I can't do the same for old messages that match that same condition.
