While I can create a new Inbox Rule, it's not possible to run this rule against all messages in my Inbox already that match the criteria of the rule.
Is it possible to update this to be more akin to the Outlook / Exchange inbox rule engine?

How about allowing inbox rules that are 'or'ed together in addition to those that are 'and'ed together?
For example, take action if a message is sent from OR sent to email@example.com. That way, both sides of a conversation could be pushed into a particular folder or be handled in some other manner.

Wildcard support in email addresses specified in Inbox rules would be really useful. Specific case, when using Outlook.com to pull email from a gmail address, and actually using the "+stuff" feature, so that rules could be written that would work against messages with those addresses.

Creating new inbox rules is reasonably easy. There is a desperate need for a clean organized way to manage an extensive list of existing rules.
There might be some logic to alternatively present rules based on what action they take as the first grouping condition, and then what rule as the second grouping, and the parameter for the rule as the third grouping.

Nearly all my rules are based on that pattern as what proven to be the most reliable way to route messages from known senders to specific folders under InBox. So realistically a more organize way for me to review my rules is to look at all the conditions that'll route a message to the "Spam" folder, or the "Microsoft" folder or the "CitiBank" folder.

When I create a new rule, I would like the option to run the rule and apply the rule to the messages in the inbox.
In Hotmail.com email, there was a rule that allowed a user to keep the most recent email from any email sender and delete the rest. Or there was one that would keep the last "so many" and other very useful rules. They were great for reducing emails that stay in one's inbox. One wants the ability to read them or ignore them and they eventually disappear.
You seemed to have deleted these functions. Please consider putting them back in!!!
There needs to be an ability to create a bulk inbox rule. I need to be able to highlight a bunch of mail from different sources in my inbox and "categorize" them in bulk as "newsletters". I then need to be able to create a simple rule that any sender with the category "newsletter" is auto moved out of inbox and into the newsletter sub folder.
I had this setup in outlook.com, but since I was switched to Outlook Mail, I am getting hundreds of newsletter emails per day in my inbox.

Hi, I use a service where I get lots of emails. I would like to direct them to folder I've created for those emails.
For move rules add an option to "apply rule to current mails".
Please change it back so you can select more than one email at a time to set a rule for. It is crazy that i have to go thru each one to set a rule to keep only the most recent. AHHHHH

Add a search and filter option for INBOX and SWEEP Rules in order to have easier access, manage and edit rules.
When you have so many rules it is hard to find and edit them.
Inbox rules should be applied to new emails from connected accounts.

When selecting or in a message, and I want it moved to another folder, I can use the move function from the pulldown menu. When I click to do the move, it would be nice to, at the same time, be able to select to create a rule so that also future messages will get that move.
Today, I need to open up a separate interface for creating a rule, and lately, when many of my old rules seem not to work any more, a all-in-one operation would be nice.
