Rules no longer working
I used to love being able to send my newsletters to different folders. ie Pinterest to a Craft folder. However none of my rules are working anymore even though I have tried to recreate them a few times. It makes going through my junk folder twice as long.

Obviously from all the complaints, OWA (Hotmail) rules do not work. How about dedicating at least one person to addressing this issue? And can do chat sessions. I very close to dumping Outlook.com and going with brand X. You guys ought to be able to support this better, I am truly disappointed in support.
Stop the spammers - your filters don't work

Now rules only works for emails that are addressed to the main account.
please make it able to all email accounts including connected email accounts.
It would be great if the rules function actually worked. What's the point of having the feature when it doesn't work?
Really sorry to see this happen. I used to advise my clients to use Outlook.com. Now Microsoft closes forums down without resolving the problem. All I have found as a 'solution' (For office 365!) is the fact that suddenly the 'server side' does not allow enough memory to save the rules I've been using on the clientside since Office 2000. And it is impossible to just run them on the client side which would be fine for me. First they told me it was because I was using 'Free software' while I was trialing Office 365 Personal, but later I found it happened at one of my jobs too where we would use the enterprise version.
Please Microsoft. Tell me which of my rules I'd best delete.Even the Case Microsoft opened on this issue in december 2016 is still an open case. The Dutch dept. Has tried everything to solve the issue or at least give me a viable answer. Eventually they had to inform me they could not get through to the U.S.A. engineers. The case is still open.

When the h**l is Microsoft going to address this? Complaints go back to 2016. No reply from Microsoft. No support. Nothing.
For anyone with a connected account and a lot of emails needing rules to sort them, this gap in Outlook.com makes it WORTHLESS.
Get that Microsoft?? Worthless.

This worked for me. When I opened the rules alerts and management on the taskbar, I found all the rules unchecked where it says Rule(applied in order shown). I checked them all and it started working again.
I've had this problem for over a year. I think the solution is to manually add each recipient to the safe Senders list. Before one of the major updates, this was somehow done automatically, so just by marking something as "not junk" and creating a rule, it wouldn't go straight to the Junk folder. I really wish they would fix this. It's frustrating enough to make me considering switching to a different mail provider.

As worthless as the phone company's "Do Not Call" list. I suspect that something may have changed in how email is encoded for ISP distribution. Whatever that may have been, it is clearly beyond Microsoft's ability to maintain Outlook's competitiveness. As with Internet Explorer, technology has outpaced Microsoft's control. At a time when Net Neutrality is coming to an end, this may be a good thing. Time will tell.
Yes, I agree! Mine used to work too and I loved it, but not anymore! No matter what I try, the rules no longer work! And yes, it makes going through junk twice as long! I've been waiting for a fix that apparently is never going to happen. I'm thinking about leaving hotmail... Seriously! :-/

it sure would be nice if the rules ******* worked, somebody broke the code GGclose.
seriously why is outlook not moving emails based on my rules?
Despite setting up mail rules for sorting emails, the spam filter regularly sends emails and newsletters to the junk folder. Despite regularly marking emails as not spam, Outlook.com still continues to do this.
What's the point of a mail rule if you're just going to ignore it?
All the emails in The folders from "deleted" to "..1 Business" are missing!
Where are they? The earliest mail seems to be from the 5/7
I pay for this account, and have for more than 15 years
I have many important messages saved. Where are they!
Mail just vanishes!
20 year old rules suddenly don't work!
Categories don't work
This is not junk does not work
What is going on with this service!!!!
Has anyone got any help? or satisfaction?
What have you done to a good email service???
I have been using Hotmail since near the very beginning, it has always been reliable and consistent
(except for some updates changing things without notice)
I have been paying for this account for years, I had my filters and then categories setup to handle my mail well.
But in the last year or so it is a complete ballsup!
I wish to know why suddenly rules, some that I have had for over 20 years don't work?
I have filters to ensure that important mail are not junked, they now don't work, they are still there, I can't seem to check or edit them.
Also emails that I have repeatedly said are not junk are still junked
Then after I had spent ages setting up "Categories" to handle my inbox, and pushing it to everyone I know, it suddenly doesn't show that there is new mail in a category making the system useless?
I have supported MSN, set up accounts for most of my family and friends, and now with Outlook it seems the entire system is so degraded that I will have to move to some other email supplier.
How do you expect to keep people in your ecosystem if you ruin your products so much? it's like MSN games all over again.
Please give me some support and repair the flaws in your product.
Well, this fix seems to be working so far, but it only applies to the outlook.com (I don't use the client/app, so I don't know if it works there).
-Go to 'Options', 'Mail', 'Automatic Processing', then 'Inbox and sweep rules'.
-You should see 'Inbox Rules' at the top. What I noticed when selecting a 'Name' is that there was something saying 'Stop processing more rules on this message' (which negates all rules).
-Edit the chosen 'Name' and UNcheck the 'Stop processing more rules' box.
-Remember to Save.
This has worked for me thus far, I hope it helps.

Why do Rules not work???
I constantly get junk/ spam emails that contain the same name, so, set up a rule to delete all such emails.
Yet, they STILL come through.
Rules are useless !!!!
Get it sorted
The inbox rule is not working.
Bobby Solis commented
Rules work great if the emails land in your inbox and not in your junk mail. After doing a few tests I confirmed this, however, I think rules should apply to the junk mail folder as well.
Rules that work.
Bobby Solis commented
When I add new rules to filter my email anything that goes into the Junk folder by default doesn't go through the filter. For instance, I have keywords found in a subject that should delete the email, but I find that these emails are not being deleted, but sent to the Junk email folder.
